5 ‘Must Have’ Players For January
Top 5 Players You Will Need For January
Sponsored by Premier Punt
With lots of players looking to use the second Wildcard in the first few days of the new year it is well worth a look at the teams that have a good chance of success in the first four game weeks of 2016 and more importantly the players that you should be considering for your first 11.
There are two teams that have a particularly good run of fixtures in January and they are Spurs and Man City. Now, I am not suggesting that you completely fill your team with players from these teams but it would certainly make sense to have a good mix of players from these two teams through your squad.
The January Fixtures for Spurs and Man City:
Spurs: Everton (a), Leicester (h), Sunderland (h), Crystal Palace (a)
Man City: Watford (a), Everton (h), Crystal Palace (h), West Ham (a)
So, who are the top 5 players that you need in January?
Kyle Walker – Spurs - £5.1m
Spurs have at least two fixtures in their January run where they have the chance of clean sheets and Kyle Walker represents their cheapest defensive option with regular game time. He loves to attack and already has a goal and an assist to his name this season. The alternative option is Dier but he is slightly more expensive but is playing in midfield so also represents good value.
Dele Alli – Spurs - £5.2m
Another cheap filler for your midfield but one that has already found the back of the net 4 times this season and has assisted 4 goals. Already establishing himself in the top 20 FPL midfielders he is going from strength to strength as he looks to stake his claim for a Euro 2016 place with England. The fixtures for Spurs have goals written all over them and the home games in particular will be a great opportunity for Alli to add to his tally this season.
David Silva – Man City - £10.0m
David Silva was back to his best against Sunderland and he represents slightly better value than Kevin De Bruyne and better consistency than Raheem Sterling. The fixtures for City should give them a good new year run and they will be aiming to claw back some points on those above them come the end of the month.
Silva has the history for assists and although he is lacking on the goals front this season, he has struggled with injury – as long as he comes through the end of 2015 unscathed then he should be top of your January bargain shopping list.
Riyad Mahrez – Leicester City - £7.1m
Leicester have some decent fixtures in January and as long as Mahrez stays at Leicester (which he has said he will) then he is the danger man to continue to damage opposition defences. The leading FPL points scorer simply has to be in your team – the chances are that he already is so don’t consider dropping him for a second. Make sure that when making your wildcard changes you don’t drop him and then bring him back as you will lose the value you have made.
Sergio Aguero – Man City - £13.1m
Aguero is being gently nursed back to the Man City side by Manuel Pellegrini but by the time their Watford fixture comes around in January he should be fully fit and fighting for his team. Yes, I know Ighalo, Vardy and company have been scoring plenty – but discount the Argentine at your peril. He is not going to reach the heights of 26 goals for the season but I wouldn’t bet against 20+ if he stays fit and I will be building my team around him.
