FPL Final Team Selection and Captain Choice:
Having spent the last four weeks literally playing with my Fantasy Premier League team, the time has come to start getting serious with it and solidifying a few decisions. You will have read my article on Eden Hazard and probably heard us discuss the Belgian on our podcast so you will know he is the one player guaranteed a spot…. BUT… other than him, everything else is a variable and up for grabs.
The Fantasy Football Tips Podcast Team:
UPDATE: We have now switched McCarthy in for Speroni given the injury.
The biggest change in the team from draft 3 is the attack. You will see that Diego Costa has had to drop out and so has Olivier Giroud. It seems that Arsene Wenger has shown his preference for Theo Walcott up front over Grioud, and there is no place in the team for maybe’s so he has been dropped to make way for Harry Kane, who has had a decent pre-season and remains as Tottenham’s only real option up front. Diego Costa remains an injury concern and we can’t have any faith in him starting up front against Swansea – therefor he makes way for Wayne Rooney to give us some Man Utd coverage.
In midfield, we see Raheem Sterling drop down in favour of Theo Walcott. We do expect to see Walcott play as striker for at least 70 minutes against West Ham and given the form he has been in during pre-season and the form of the Arsenal team in general then we expect a return from him.
You will also notice an injury to our goal keeper which will keep him out until the end of August. This is where our goalkeeper strategy really comes in to play as our backup keeper (Hennessey) will replace Speroni so we will be keeping the two of them.
Who to pick as captain game week 1?
The question of who to pick as captain in GW1 has been banded about quite a lot this week. On the podcast we decided firmly on Eden Hazard but I am wavering more towards Theo Walcott right now. For now, they are the only two that I would consider choosing so it will probably be captain for Hazard and vice for Walcott – just to be on the safe side (incase Wenger doesn’t play Walcott up front).
We will disucss the impact of this decision on next week’s podcast so make sure you tune in. We will also discuss our league position and where we are, who is making the early running at the top and analyzing why they were successful in GW1. If you have not already joined our FPL mini-league, there is a £100 prize up for grabs courtesy of Premier Punt and of course the prestige of being the best of the best. We currently have over 800 in the league – so join up today.
