Fantasy Premier League Game Week 18

Fantasy Premier League Game Week 18

Game Week 18 Tips

With the small matter of Christmas festivities between now and the FPL game week 18 fixtures you could be forgiven for thinking that some managers might have taken their eye of the ball – but with hundreds of thousands dropping the suspended Diego Costa for the in-form Zlatan Ibrahimovic it looks like Fantasy Premier League stops for no man, beast or overly commercial festive event. After being spoilt with a double set of fixtures last week it seems like the football is taking a while to come around but fear not – once you have stuffed yourself with turkey, the boxing day fixtures will be here in no time for you to enjoy a football feast instead.

Starting with Diego

With Costa being the key player being talked about this week the first question is whether you should drop him or not. If you haven’t already done so then there is a case to be made for keeping him (depending on the price you paid for him). His price has already dropped by £0.2m this week so it was prudent to act sharpish. However, if you can afford the switch to Ibra then it looks like the play to make. If you are struggling to make the sums work for that move then Divock Origi, Romelu Lukaku and Christian Benteke all look like one week hits before you look to bring the Spanish forward back in to your team for GW19.

Let’s take a look at the rest of the picks for GW18.

Man Utd Vs. Sunderland

Three good wins on the bounce for Man Utd make for better reading for Jose Mourinho and they may just have turned a corner. A couple of goals against a well drilled West Brom defence is no mean feat and if they can break down that Tony Pulis side then they can surely inflict more misery on ex-United manager David Moyes. Zlatan is the key figure in this game and the super Swede will be a popular captain choice this week with a recent upturn in form. Five goals and an assist in as many games and it is clear that when Zlatan is firing, United are playing better – if you can then you need him in your team this week!

Unfortunately I cannot see Sunderland getting anything from this one and a win to nil is on the cards for United with plenty of decently priced defenders to opt for.

Hull City Vs. Man City

Always captain Aguero is the usual cry here – but of course we can’t for at least one more week so the question over who to opt for in this game is fully open. Despite losing their star striker, Man City still have the third best recent form – and last weekend’s win over Arsenal will have gone to some lengths to instill confidence back in this team that has had its wobbles.

KDB the player that is most likely to return the points and if he gets the nod ahead of Iheanacho again then he could well return some decent points in this fixture. Just when you think Hull are looking a bit more solid at the back they ship a bucket load of goals and this looks like it could be the case again – even without Aguero. David Silva is the other player who has been quietly picking up assists and goals over the last few games and at £8.7m could be worth a cheeky punt.

Chelsea Vs. Bournemouth

The Chelsea steamroller continues whilst Bournemouth ran out of puff last week against Southampton and this looks a tall order for the Cherries. Chelsea will be missing Costa but they have a ready made replacement in Batshuayi who has found his chances to be limited thanks to Costa’s brilliant form. It is not certain that he will come in to the team but it is more than likely that he will – at £8.5m he will offer plenty of differential for a decent price. The defence continues to impress as Chelsea pick up clean sheet after clean sheet but if you want these 6 point players they are going to cost you. Expect to pay at least £6.1m for a David Luiz or as much as £6.5m for Azpi.

The rest of the fixtures

Away from those key games there are some other decent looking games on Boxing Day. Liverpool face Stoke and this promises to be a good game of football. The usual suspects for Liverpool should be in the mix with Sadio Mane being the top pick at the moment – if you still have Failminho then do yourself a favour and drop him until Coutinho returns.

Spurs have a difficult trip to Saint Mary’s to face Southampton but another game or two can be given to Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen if they are in your teams. Spurs need a result here and will be going all guns blazing.

Arsenal face West Brom which will be anything but straightforward and the Gunners will be desperate for the three points as a belated Christmas present. Sanchez remains key for Arsenal and it could be prudent to opt for Theo Walcott if you haven’t invested in the Chilean. The defenders are more likely to take the points in this game and Bellerin is the prime choice in that respect – but don’t expect any Boxing Day bargains on his price tag! With only 1 goal in the last 5 in this fixture he should return at least 5 or 6 points.

Watford face Crystal Palace in a game that is almost impossible to predict in the early kick off. This game has goals written all over it and I would be tipping Zaha and Benteke in this game. But your attentions will probably be taken up with other players – if not then one of these two in your team could prove valuable.

We will back on Christmas Eve with our game week 18 captain picks so be sure to check back in then.
