Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 14 Tips
Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 14 Tips
As we head in to December, one of the busiest Fantasy Premier League months of the year it is a clear indicator that Christmas is coming as gameweek 14 follows hot on the heels of gameweek 13 with just two days between fixtures. For most FPL managers, this is a joyous time of year and a chance to accumulate points quickly. For others, it is a headache trying to juggle their injury prone stars who are accustomed to playing once per week. There are no fewer than 6 gameweeks in December 2014 so make sure you have sorted your long term strategy.
The biggest fear as we head into December is squad rotation and the bigger risk of injury that back to back games pose to our players.
Gameweek 14 Strategy
Unless you need to make a transfer between GW13 and GW14 I would suggest you keep your transfers for gameweek 15 as it will give you more room for manoeuvre. Captain choices are crucial for this gameweek as around 20% of managers usually forget about midweek fixtures and therefore don’t change their captain to suit the fixtures. For this reason I will be mainly focusing on captain choices rather than FPL transfers. Also – if you like to take a sneaky approach to management then don’t talk to your fellow managers about the games as there is a good chance they will forget.
If you choose a captain for Tuesday nights games then you can make sure he is in the starting line up before the deadline closes. Same applies for transfers!
Top FPL Gameweek 14 Tips
The midweek evening fixtures will be providing some special games under the lights, and most fantasy football tipsters will have mixed opinions on gameweek 14 predictions as there are no absolute standout fixtures that make obvious captain choices.
Who should you captain this week?
Let’s take a look at some of the best options for FPL captain choices this week:
Diego Costa – vs. Spurs (h)
Possibly a player that will be the number one FPL captain pick for GW14 as Chelsea take on their local rivals, Tottenham Hotspur. Costa seemed to struggle with his fitness earlier in the season but looks to have overcome this and looks able to play two games per week these days. Spurs are hardly solid at the back and Costa seems as ruthless as ever and will be one of the top picks for captain this week. I expect a goal at least - 8/10
None of this now applies as Costa received a yellow card against Sunderland and will now miss the GW14 match - so why have we left this in? Simple - people will be asking:
Should I sell Diego Costa as he is suspended?
The simple answer to this is no... Costa will be back, bigger and better than ever for Gameweek 15 so keep him in the sidelines and use your squad depth.
Sergio Aguero – vs. Sunderland (a)
It seems an obvious choice given the form of Sergio Aguero and the suspension to Diego Costa this season but FPL managers are a fickle bunch and there will be many who have question marks over this game for Man City. Man City were turned over last season against Sunderland and failed to score in the process. Man City are hardly the most convincing at the moment and it is unlikely that this game will produce a brace or more for Aguero so it may be worth looking elsewhere for differential points – 6.5/10
Wilfred Bony – vs. QPR (h)
QPR looked far from solid at the back once again when playing against what was effectively a Championship side in Leicester City at the weekend and Swansea looked a dangerous proposition against a spirited Crystal Palace side at The Liberty Stadium in that game. Bony was rested with a good 15 minutes still to go and will be one of the first names on the team sheet to face QPR. This is a good home fixture and could be one of the games of the week in terms of goal scoring potential. Bony looks like being a beast in this one – 8.5/10
Wayne Rooney – vs. Stoke City (h)
I have been banging on about Wayne Rooney for a few weeks now and as predicted his value is now rising as a result of some pretty big performances. This is certainly not an easy game for Manchester United, but they have hit some decent form and I expect a fourth straight win here against a Stoke side that struggled to score against a poor Liverpool side in gameweek 13. Rooney is one of the biggest form players around, and when he gets up a head of steam he picks up FPL points for fun. With the injury to Di Maria and Falcao still building up to full fitness, Rooney is the number one choice ahead of Van Persie – big points potential here – 9/10
Who to transfer in for gameweek 14
As I said, I would advise against a midweek transfer but if needs must and you have no choice here are some good options with GW14 and GW15 in mind. I have gone for bargain buys on the back of Black Friday and in light of it being Cyber Monday this week.
Alan Hutton - £4.2m – Crystal Palace (a), Leicester (h)
Sigurdsson - £6.8m – QPR (h), West Ham (a)
Jordan Henderson - £5.9m – Leicester (a), Sunderland (h)
