Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 24 Tips
Gameweek 24 Fantasy Premier League Tips
With the Fantasy Premier League season now seemingly hurtling towards the closing months, gameweek 24 is a pressing concern and although this is a brand new month (something that is welcomed by me for my monthly league) most savvy managers will already be keeping one eye on gameweek 27 that sees a partial gameweek followed by a double gameweek the following week. Chelsea and Spurs players will be missing for GW27 due to the League Cup final, but the managers of their players will enjoy a bumper double week the following week. Certainly worth thinking about and keeping a x2 free transfer for GW27. To cut a long story short, get your teams sorted this week and next so that GW26 can be a no transfer week – leaving you the luxury of making those transfers the following week.
Gameweek 23 saw those who put their faith in our tips richly rewarded and the likes of Olivier Giroud, Jermaine Defoe and Santi Cazorla did us proud. Our Peter Crouch shout was a little less successful so we will hold our hands up there of being blissfully stupid – although Stoke did okay.
Key Fixtures for Gameweek 24:
Man City Vs. Hull City:
You don’t need to be a genius to know where we are going first with this and it is of course to the Etihad Stadium. City were unlucky not to beat Chelsea last week and looked a class act against a very good Chelsea side. Aguero is still finding his way back to fitness but still managed an assist. The Man City defence looked pretty good for the most part against Chelsea and David Silva was pulling the strings from midfield. Expect more of the same against Hull. Key Man: Sergio Aguero is of course the key man in this fixture and you can expect City to be looking for a drubbing here. It is hard to see where Hull (who have been dismal this season) will get their next good result from. It won’t be here and I expect a minimum 3 goal victory to nil here. Aguero will be a very popular captain choice this week and this will most likely be the game in which he returns to goal scoring form. It would take a very brave man or woman to go against Aguero here. At the very least, he simply has to be in your team!
Everton Vs. Liverpool:
Possibly one of the most fiercely contested derby games in world football will take place this weekend at Goodison Park when Liverpool take on Everton. In recent seasons these two teams have been much closer and although both teams have underperformed this season, it is Everton who find themselves in the more perilous part of the league table – a massive 12 points off Liverpool’s tally of 38. Daniel Sturridge returned with a substitute appearance and a goal in gameweek 23 and I expect him to start against Everton this week. He will be pivotal to the continuation of Liverpool’s good recent form and could be a good differential pick for gameweek 24 – although the differential potential won’t last long as more managers will look to put him in their teams.
View image | gettyimages.com Another Liverpool player who has hit form recently is Philippe Coutinho who bagged an impressive 10 points and 2 assists against West Ham. He has looked like a vital cog in the Liverpool team recently and has now started to match the performances with FPL points. At £7.6m and just 3.4% ownership he could be a good prospect. My biggest reservation over Liverpool players however is their upcoming fixtures, so I would probably only go for one player from Liverpool for now. I cannot see this game being a clean sheet for either team so steer clear of the defenders.
Leicester Vs. Crystal Palace:
If you need a cheap player to facilitate a move for Aguero then you could do worse than look at the midfield options presented by Crystal Palace. Although they fired a blank against Everton last week, Palace had looked pretty strong in attack prior to that and I could see a high scoring game here between two sides who need to win and like to get forward. Wilfried Zaha has just committed his future to the club following his transfer back from Man Utd and at £5.1m represents good value. He should now be getting more game time and will be amongst the more creative elements of Palace’s game. The more consistent in terms of appearances however is Jason Puncheon – he will cost you £0.5m more than Zaha but has a good eye for goal and again is a good cheap option. We will be back with our GW24 captain picks and the podcast later this week. In the meantime – leave us a comment or a question and we will try and feature it on the podcast.
