FPL Game Week 1 Tips
The Premier League season is just days away from launching and with it we see the hopes, dreams and aspirations of Fantasy Football managers up and down the land (and indeed across the globe) reignited for a fresh crack at Fantasy Premier League supremacy.
We have been busy during pre-season bringing you a vast array of different fantasy football tips, strategies and let’s be honest here – guesswork. No-one can say with any great certainty what to expect this season – and if they can, then ask them who they predicted would win last year’s Premier League competition. That being said, an educated assessment based on history, form and a bit of old fashioned common sense will get you so far… and hopefully you will get a bit of luck along the way.
Pre-amble complete – let’s dive straight in and take a look at the chances of our players for game week 1 in FPL.
Sergio Aguero – Man City Vs. Sunderland
The attacking places in your team are the most coveted, but a season without Aguero is unthinkable and so he has to be the first name on your team sheet. The Argentine has been in good form during pre-season and scored again against Arsenal at the weekend in Pep’s final preparation before the new season starts.
Taking on David Moyes’ Sunderland side that seems to be playing John O’Shea in centre midfield and the proposition of a winning start to the Sky Blue’s title challenge looks highly likely.
He is captain obvious this week and although a number of people may have had their heads turned by a certain Mr Ibrahimovic following the Community Shield, we should not forget that Aguero has the best stats for goals per minute on the pitch in both of the last two seasons.
And so – Sergio Aguero as our first tip is more of a reminder than a tip.
Rob Holding – Arsenal Vs. Liverpool
20 year Holding was signed from Bolton Wanderers at the beginning of the summer and has spent a fair chunk of pre-season in the starting 11. A fresh injury to another Arsenal defender (this time it’s Gabriel on the treatment table) and Holding - who looked like he was going to be partnering Gabriel on the opening day of the season – now looks like he is nailed on to play.
He won’t be a long term player this season and there is of course Callum Chambers to come in, but at £4.5m Holding could be a very decent cheap back up player for the first few weeks.
Jamie Vardy – Hull City Vs. Leicester City
Leicester had a really good test in the Community Shield and they have had some very high caliber opposition during pre-season as a result of winning last season’s Premier League title. The defending champions go to newly promoted Hull City on the opening weekend and Jamie Vardy will be looking to add to the goal he scored against Man Utd on Sunday.
The fact that this game is away from home will help the Foxes and if you can stomach the price tag for Vardy then you could be rewarded this weekend. If you prefer the midfield choice, then of course it has to be Riyad Mahrez.
Eden Hazard – Chelsea Vs. West Ham
Eden Hazard has been in inspired form during pre-season and another goal at the weekend will see him go in to the opening weekend of the season high in confidence. The Chelsea playmaker was very poor last season but he looks like he is going to be back to his sizzling best this season and if he is, £10m would be a steal.
Chelsea also look to be a lot more solid at the back so he should have a little more freedom to roam up top and there is every chance that Hazard could be playing just off one of the other strikers in a formation more akin to 4-4-2.
We think Hazard could catch a few people out in the early part of this season and although this fixture is not particularly kind, the Belgian is in too good a form to ignore.
We will back later this week with our captain choices and if you have not already checked out or 3 must have players for the season then you can check out the members article here.
