Game Week 3 Tips: Fantasy Premier League
Sponsored by Premier Punt
As the Fantasy Premier League steams ahead in to game week 3 we can expect to see FPL teams start to settle down and the top players start to pick up more points than the cheaper players. What we all want to know at the moment is which Premier League players will be the new Harry Kane (cheap and bagging you loads of points) but we won’t know that for some time. Just like it is inconceivable that Leicester City will be 2nd in the Premier League table at Christmas (probably even after GW4) it is just as inconceivable that Mahrez or Albrighton will remain in the top 3 FPL midfielder list in such time – but that hasn’t stopped over 200,000 managers bringing Mahrez in to their teams in the last week!
We didn’t have the most amazing week last week and probably the one thing that all of us have had to take note of in the first 2 weeks is the blistering start made by Man City which was further enhanced with a 3-0 romp against Chelsea – one that saw Sergio Aguero return to the starting line-up and tear Chelsea to shreds in the opening exchanges (a hat-trick could and probably would have ensued if he was fully fit). Our faith in Christian Benteke was justified and although he didn’t have quite the amount of space we thought he might against Bournemouth he was sharp in front of goal when the chance arose – giving those that captained him a great 18 point return as he bagged all 3 bonus points too!
Our Early FPL Game Week 3 Tips:
As always, we give our early thoughts on the next round of EPL fixtures and remember that we will be back later in the week with a more in-depth look at the fixtures and our captain pick for game week 3 will be released on Friday.
Our first thoughts on game week 3 point us towards Sunderland – and for all the wrong reasons. The 2014/15 did not really feature a team considered to be ‘whipping boys’ but Sunderland already look like just that this season following defeats to Leicester and newly promoted Norwich City – all this of course on the back of a terrible pre-season. This week they take on Swansea City who have looked very impressive in their first two games and so we turn our attention to the players for Swansea that could pay off this week…
Andre Ayew: £7.1m
We talked about him in pre-season and we tipped him to come good – and guess what… he has only gone and scored 2 goals in 2 games! There is lots to like about the way he attacks teams and he is as close to a guaranteed starter as anybody in the Swansea team. We like the way Jonjo Shelvey and Montero have started the season for Swansea too, but Ayew carries the bigger goal threat. With 17 points from 2 games and playing against a Sunderland side that has shipped 7 goals in 2 games – we really fancy him to be in with the chance of an assist or a goal again! Put it this way – over the course of the season he will not disappoint.
If you are concerned over a Jordan Henderson injury then Ayew could be a fantastic replacement.
Bafetimbi Gomis: £7.1m
Another player who is rated at £7.1m following a price rise is the Swansea striker Gomis. A goal in both of his opening games, we talked about him last week and predicted a goal and here we are again. The differential has become slightly exposed with him being the most transferred in player this week, but he offers great value as a cheap(er) striker and might just allow you to bring in Aguero. There is no reason to think he won’t score against Sunderland and we have high hopes for the man who is expected to follow in the footsteps of Wilfried Bony.
