FPL Gameweek 16 Captain Picks
FPL Gameweek 16 Captain Picks
Gameweek 16 kicks off on 13th December although it was the gameweek 7 days earlier in Fantasy Premier League that was unlucky for most of us with one of the lowest scoring Saturdays on record, which was then of course compounded by the injury to Aguero which looks to be keeping the FPL top points scorer out for around 6 weeks.
The big question at the start of the week was whether or not to sell the star striker… and with £0.2m already coming off his value those less savvy managers that haven’t already dropped him will surely follow suit this weekend making a further price drop more than likely. But, isn’t this why fantasy football is the best game on the planet? We think so.
With captain obvious out for the remainder of a busy December and Christmas football schedule it makes GW16-19 very interesting indeed and will make or break most managers’ seasons. So the question remains –
With Aguero out injured who should be your gameweek 16 captain?
As usual, we bring you our weekly dose of fantasy football tips and it could be said that never have these tips been so widely anticipated.
There are 3 key fixtures in gameweek 16 in terms of captain choices:
Leicester vs. Man City
Arsenal vs. Newcastle
Chelsea vs. Hull
Who should I captain for Gameweek 16?
Man City – Yaya Toure, Edin Dzeko
Yaya Toure is massively on the upward curve in terms of FPL points and has scored 10 points in 3 of the last 4 games. A repeat of that would give you a good captain return of 20 points and with Aguero out injured there will be more reliance on the Man City midfielder to make those trademark slalom runs from deep and there will be plenty of chances against a poor Leicester back line.
A similar case can be made for Edin Dzeko – so if you have brought the Bosnian in to replace Aguero he would be a decent captain choice having played most of the game in midweek against Roma. The only concern would be if Pellegrini decides to opt for Jovetic – although we think Dzeko will be the preferred choice now City have qualified for the Champions League last 16 and given that Jovetic is still working his way back to full fitness.
Arsenal – Alexis Sanchez
Not hard to see why we keep on backing Alexis Sanchez as a good FPL captain choice as he bagged another assist last week and is due a Premier League goal. He was rested in midweek and did not even make the trip to Turkey when Arsenal demolished Galatasaray in a 4-1 win. Although the performance against Stoke was poor this will be a different proposition and Newcastle are looking threadbare at the back – expect goals in this game and I will be backing Alexis to grab a goal in this game. A top captain choice.
Cheslea – Hazard, Diego Costa, Oscar
Hazard has proved over the last few weeks how devastating he can be and although he didn’t sparkle in the game against Newcastle last week he will be a different proposition at Stamford Bridge in a Chelsea team who will be desperate to put last week’s mishap behind them. I would choose Hazard as captain over Diego Costa this week – the Spanish forward is out of form and had his fitness questioned by Mourinho this week… the fact that he played in the Champions League when Chelsea had already topped the group is somewhat of a concern.
The other option this week is the Brazilian Oscar. He has been somewhat overshadowed so far this term by Cesc Fabregas, but with Fab Fabregas suspended for this one, expect Oscar to have a more prominent role in open play and set pieces too. A good outside bet for captain and one that could reap big differential rewards if he scores.
The Differential Potential Captain
Having mentioned Oscar as a possible captain choice that not many others will have let’s have a look elsewhere for possible captain choices. We backed Andy Carroll this week in our Gameweek 16 Tips and stand by the decision and that would bring big differential potential this week. Another possible for Man City this week is David Silva, but this would be a big risk as the question is whether Silva will start for Man City! If he does, then this would be a great captain choice this week!
The Verdict of FPL Captain Pick for Gameweek 16:
When making a captain choice in Fantasy Premier League I always have to choose someone I can rely on, it has to be a guaranteed starter. For me – this week it will be Alexis Sanchez or Yaya Toure as they are guaranteed starters and I think most people will be opting for Diego Costa – so I am hoping for a Costa blank and at least an assist or goal along with bonus points for my star midfielders.
