FPL Gameweek 16 Tips: Aguero and West Ham Potential
Gameweek 16 Fantasy Premier League Tips: Life without Aguero
Gameweek 15 of the Fantasy Premier League season was a harsh reminder of why we bloody love this game so much. First of all Chelsea saw their ‘invincible’ title snatched away from them and in the process we saw Diego Costa and Hazard draw blanks and Cesc Fabregas gain the yellow card that we had all been waiting for – initiating a one game ban.
Most of us would have thought our gameweek would improve from there on in – but what did we know?!
For many, Gameweek 15 will have been their lowest scoring week of the season – and when I see Alan Hutton being my top points scorer, it kind of tells its own story.
Of course, the biggest talking point of the weekend was the injury to Sergio Aguero which prompted us to act quickly and release our emergency gameweek 16 tips article on Saturday night! A scan was expected on Sunday for the Argentine forward but Man City have been very slow to release a statement in relation to the injury causing mounting speculation of a long term injury for Aguero.
That’s all we will say on Aguero for Gameweek 16 for now, as we have already released our advice on what to do until we get further information on the injury. Also, it is important to remember that over 65% of managers did not have Aguero – oh how I bet they’re laughing now!
FPL Gameweek 16 Preview:
A lot of the talk a few weeks ago was around Southampton and how they would fare in this tricky part of their season following a sensational start. Whilst they have not achieved the results, the general consensus is that they will return to form with easier fixtures, they face Burnley is Gameweek 16. Is it time now to start asking the same questions about West Ham?
Not many football fans would have predicted that West Ham would be sitting third in the EPL table at any point in December, to add to this impressive feat they have also scored more goals than Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs – in fact, only Chelsea and Man City have scored more goals.
So with this, and an impressive display by Andy Carroll and co we are asking the question – is it time to get West Ham players in your Fantasy Premier League team for GW16? With the next two fixtures looking favourable for West Ham – Sunderland (a) and Leicester (h) they could easily find themselves in third place at Christmas – and this could be time for FPL managers to take advantage.
FPL West Ham Attacking Options:
Andy Carroll - £6.9m – Striker
Carroll has played just 5 games this season and looks to be reaching full fitness and peak form right now. With a points haul of 16 in GW15 he scored two goals and assisted one. He has averaged just under 5 points per game with a total return of 23 in those 5 games. The only downside to buying Carroll at this price is that West Ham do have some other decent front line options – but Carroll has already proved he is the number one for Big Sam – so expect him to start in all of these games.
Diafra Sakho - £5.7m – Striker
With 56 points scored this term, Sakho has already proved himself a good proposition for FPL managers and is a cheap option at under £6m. The concern is that he has not started the last 4 games, although he did come off the bench to score in GW15. For me, until he is starting games he is not an option – Carroll gets the nod for GW16 and GW17.
Stewart Downing - £6.1m – Midfielder
With 2 assists in 2 games plus a couple of bonus points this week, Downing is very firmly on our radar. At just £6.1m he is the best value midfielder in terms of points per pound with only the usual big hitters above him. Given these next two fixtures, if you have room for Downing in your team – this could be a shrewd move. Perhaps you are wondering to transfer in for Fabregas following his suspension – this is a top choice and will save you over £3m in the process… not bad business!
Other top choices for FPL Gameweek 16:
Diego Costa – A game against Hull City without Fabregas to assist but he is top class and will start performing again soon… do we trust him here?
Edin Dzeko – Man City play Leicester away from home – they conceded two against Villa so this could be pretty ugly for the Foxes. If Aguero is out as we suspect the the big Bosnian could be the answer – and at good value for money too! Captain potential if you could guarantee a start!
Any Southampton Backline Player: Did you stick with Forster and your Southampton defenders? Did you see them through the difficult times? If so, good on you and reap the rewards here – a home goal would be pretty surprising here!
