FPL Gameweek 18 Captain Pick

Gameweek 17 was a classic example of how an inspired (or lucky) captain choice can give you a massive edge over your fellow FPL managers. Anyone who captained Charlie Austin last week will have been rewarded with a 34 point haul – enough to make your mates weep as you gloated with every goal that hit the back of the West Brom net.

If you didn’t have Charlie Austin then don’t worry, as it is time to turn your attention to gameweek 18 and the soon to follow gameweek 19. All is not lost, and by the end of December things could look a lot different!

To give yourself the best chance of success in GW18 and GW19 make sure you have employed one of the two strategies we suggested in our Gameweek 18 Tips article.

We will have a look at the most likely or unlikely heroes for gameweek 18 now:

Alexis Sanchez - Captain GW18 vs. QPR (h):

We tipped Sanchez last week to not much success which was disappointing, however the Chilean is still a class act and is facing a QPR side who are dire away from home this season. There will be goals in this game and Arsenal will most likely score 3 or more so expect Sanchez to be in on the action this week.

He will be a popular GW18 captain choice, but some may be put off after a poor display against Liverpool – for us he is the number one choice given the current injury concern for Hazard.

Radamel Falcao – Captain GW18 vs. Newcastle (h):

Expect a big Manchester United performance this week against Newcastle in a fixture that is always hotly anticipated and usually provides plenty of goal mouth action.

The biggest difficulty is choosing which United player to bring in. Di Maria would be high on my list if I could guarantee he would start – something that I am hopeful he will be cannot say with much confidence.

The opposite is true of Falcao – although I cannot guarantee a start for the Columbian forward, it certainly does look like LVG has nursed him back to full fitness and given him an increased appetite and desire for the game by questioning his fitness for the most part of this season. Falcao will be hungry for goals and he showed against Villa he is a top class finisher with the goal he scored. RVP is another option of course, but I would be going for Falcao over RVP right now.

Yaya Toure – Captain GW18 vs. West Brom (a):

We tipped Yaya last week against Crystal Palace and he did not disappoint with a 9 point tally and we see no reason not to continue to keep our faith in him this week against a West Brom side who conceded 3 goals away to QPR last week.

City continue to have their problems up front so there will be continued expectation on the likes of David Silva and Yaya Toure. With concerns over the squad rotation risk that David Silva might face, we would rather opt for Toure as a captain pick.

Toure has the physical presence to cope with the hustle and bustle you might expect at the Hawthornes and although he might pick up the dreaded fifth yellow card that would trigger suspension – we have high hopes for GW18.
