FPL Captain Picks Gameweek 20
Happy New Year one and all from Fantasy Football Tips and depending on which time zone you are reading this from will determine how premature or late we are with that – either way, we really appreciate you reading and following our tips and wish you a very prosperous and glory filled 2015.
Now we are firmly in to the second half of the Premier League season, many managers will have a firm idea of where their ambitions lie for the year ahead, but all of you will want to have a good start to the new year and the month of January.
We have plenty to consider in January 2015 with the new wildcard, the Africa Cup of Nations 2015 and the Asia Cup – all of which will be preoccupying our thoughts pre-transfers. Make sure you check out our Gameweek 20 Transfer Tips and January Strategy here for our transfer advice.
Top Gameweek 20 Captain Pick
David Silva – Man City Vs. Sunderland
If you don’t have Silva in your FPL team then now is the time to act. His price is on the rise but still remains at a very reasonable £9.2m but this has gone up £0.4m since his return from injury 4 game weeks ago.
Following the disappointing result against Burnley that Pellegrini labelled as complacency you can be sure that he will be fielding a highly motivated team that will be desperate to make amends against a Sunderland team who will be defending for large parts at the Etihad.
Silva has bagged a whopping 36 points in 3 games and we will be hoping for another goal this week from the Spanish playmaker. Assists are of course also highly likely, and for us he is the number one captain choice for gameweek 20.
Stewart Downing – West Ham Vs. West Brom
West Ham have just come off the back of two very tough games against Chelsea and Arsenal. Although they did not disgrace themselves they struggled to find the kind of form they previously showed. This week could be very different as they face a West Brom side at their lowest ebb.
WBA could well be up for the fight given the sacking of Alan Irvine, but West Ham will have too much quality for them here and with West Ham about to lose 3 of their top players to the Africa Cup of Nations 2015, Big Sam will know the importance of securing points early in January.
Stewart Downing is having his most impressive season for some time and it would be no surprise were he to add to his already impressive tally of 96 points. Now that he has started to score goals as well as assist them, he is a very credible captain choice with some real differential potential.
Xabi Alonso (Long Shot) Captain Pick
The Xabi of the week will of course be a player who will bring big differential points should he perform well. The Xabi of the week for GW20 is Adam Lallana for Liverpool. Although he will have caught the eye of many managers last week against Swansea, he will still not be preferred to the more forward lying Raheem Sterling. Lallana has less than 1% ownership and still sits at £8.3m following his 15 point haul in GW19.
He looks like he has started to click this season following an injury laden start to his Liverpool career and Brendan Rogers can not afford to mess with a winning system now that it looks like Liverpool have finally found their groove.
Leicester City should find this a tough game and Liverpool will look to exploit the lack of Premier League experience that they have.
A good punt for captain for Gameweek 20 but you might have to sacrifice someone to get him in.
