Fantasy Football Tips Gameweek 22
Fantasy Football Gameweek 22 Tips:
Gameweek 21 saw the return of the temporarily forgotten man, Sergio Aguero. The injury to the Man City striker in December levelled the playing field and led to many managers having more balanced squads, but with the Argentinian goal getter returning from injury a week ahead of schedule and even getting 20+ minutes of playing time – many Fantasy Premier League managers will now be asking:
Will Aguero start against Arsenal?
Even if he does start, do you want Aguero in your team right now or is it too early to bring Aguero back? We will look at all of this and more in our tips for GW22.
The Fantasy Premier League Aguero Question…
In GW21 just over 10% of FPL managers had Aguero in their teams and his price has already moved back up from £12.3m to £12.4m and this is now sure to increase throughout the week. Historically, it takes Sergio Aguero a few games to get back to full fitness before returning to peak goal scoring form and in game week 22 Man City take on Arsenal who will be right up for having a crack at the current EPL champions following their result against Stoke City.
Unless you are primarily focused on saving around £0.2m, then for me gameweek 24 will be the week to bring Aguero back.
Why wait for such a star player I hear you ask?
Firstly, there is no guarantee that Aguero will start the next game. Secondly, they take on Arsenal who will be no pushovers. Thirdly, they take on Chelsea at The Bridge in Gameweek 23 who will be playing their usual Mourinho ‘hard to break down 1-0’ tactical style of football. Gameweek 24 sees them play Hull City at home and this also gives you time to prepare your squad (and not take a points hit) if you have already played your wildcard – just ensure you save the extra free transfer.
Gameweek 22 Midfielder Options:
So, if we are not taking Aguero back with open arms just yet, then where will we be looking to pick up the points this week?
Manchester United – There are two key Manchester United players who are on our radar for Gameweek 22.
Juan Mata and Di Maria.
We were surprised to see Radamel Falcao rested for the Southampton game and it shows the faith that LVG has put in Juan Mata who has now played 9 successive games for the resurgent Manchester club to see him keep his place with the return of Angel Di Maria.
Although the Southampton performance lacked cutting edge for United, there were a number of players just coming back in from mid to long term injuries and this could account for a sluggish performance and better is still to come.
As we highlighted last week, Manchester United are about to go on a run of very winnable fixtures and although Di Maria will be my number one pick as he returns to full match fitness, if you are working with budget constraints then Mata is a great second choice. It is hard to believe he didn’t score against Southampton and has been there or there abouts in most of the games he has played this season.
Upcoming fixtures are QPR (a), Leicester (h), West Ham (a), Burnley (h), Swansea (a), Sunderland (h).
I would fancy my chances in those six games that there will be plenty of goals and if Di Maria stays fit he will be bagging plenty of points.
Gameweek 22 Long shot: Bafetimbi Gomis
Since the departure of Wilfried Bony to Manchester City it looks like Swansea will be placing their faith in the dependable Bafetimbi Gomis. Swansea take on Chelsea in GW22 and will of course find this a tough game, however they were far from comfortable in the first half against Newcastle and Swansea could well find space to expose Chelsea at the Liberty Stadium.
Gomis is a long shot, but at just £6.5m and with just 0.4% ownership there is excellent differential potential to be had. Unless Swansea re-invest the fee they have received for Bony (which they may well do) then he will be a good prospect for the rest of the season.
We will be back later this week with an Aguero update and we will also be looking at our captain picks for gameweek 22 on Thursday – so do pop back then. Why not sign up to our email updates and receive the latest news on Aguero and co straight to your inbox.
