FPL Gameweek 38 Captain Pick
FPL Gameweek 38 Captain Pick:
With gameweek 37 now completed and the Black Cats giving those Sunderland loving FPL managers a timely boost with double clean sheets, it is time to turn our attention to the biggest decision left this season. Who should you captain in gameweek 38? If you need our other FPL GW38 tips then you can find them here.
With Eden Hazard facing a race against dental fitness for Sunday’s final game against Sunderland the captain choice has become all the more interesting. Hazard probably would have been one of the most popular choices, but with it looking like he won’t be playing the net has been cast wide and far. We assess the top captain picks without Eden Hazard – so here are our top 3 players for the final week…
Number 1 Captain Pick – Romelu Lukaku
It has been a while since we picked the big Belgian as a captain pick at all, let alone as our number one captain choice, but with a return to form last week and facing a Spurs team bereft of any identity or motivation he could feature this week in style. The fixtures are tough this week but Everton have been on the up in recent weeks and will want to cement their position in the league here, the only concern is that little bit of inconsistency they have shown – but even when they lose they have been scoring so we are very hopeful of big things here.
Number 2 Captain Pick – Christian Benteke
At home against Burnley, the Villa forward is reaching the peak of his form and Sherwood will be looking for a good performance from his team to go in to the FA Cup Final with some renewed confidence. The concern is that he may rest Benteke in the second half should Villa be winning, but if you have him in your team – he will be a decent captain chance and I fancy him to continue his rich scoring form at home this week!
Number 3 Captain Pick – Befetimbi Gomis
Swansea have had a fantastic season, not least because of the sale of their top scorer Wilfried Bony during the January transfer window. They have a new talisman now though in Gomis who has scored 2 goals in his last 2 games, one of which came in a 17 minute appearance.
Swansea will want to extend their record breaking points tally in the final weekend of the EPL season with a win over Crystal Palace and if anyone is going to help them achieve it then it is Mr Gomis.
Who to avoid in Gameweek 38
Apart from the fact that Man Utd have been inconsistent this year they really have nothing to play for in this final game. In contrast, Hull have everything to play for in trying to secure Premier League survival so this is a tough game to predict. LVG may use this game to test out some of his squad players before making a decision on whether to sell them in the summer so I would stay away from these players. If you were to choose one then it would be the cheap, but in form Ashley Young for me – he is enjoying a new lease of life in the close season and he will enjoy some space should Hull need to push on for the winner – as they really need to.
Some FPL managers will be tempted this week by Southampton following their drubbing of Aston Villa, but this is Man City and we cannot expect the same heroics from their players and especially Mane. Congratulations if you had him last week, but do not expect a repeat performance here.
