Game Week 1 Captain Picks
Game Week 1 Captain Tips
It feels good to be sitting here sifting through the captain selections ahead of the kick off of the new Premier League season – and in all honesty, it feels like we’ve hardly been away.
If you are new to our website, we offer 3 captain picks each week (usually one of them will have some decent differential) that are graded in order of preference, with the number one choice being reserved for our members – the link to that article will be at the bottom of this one.
So, without further adieu, let’s dive straight in to the game week 1 captain tips…
Captain Pick No. 3 – Andre Gray
We would usually have waited a while before selecting a player for a newly promoted side, but the form (albeit pre-season) and the fixture are too good an opportunity to miss out on.
Turf Moor will be rocking as Burnley host a Swansea City side that has just lost their historic captain Ashley Williams and they could be struggling at the back. Swansea could be in trouble this season if they don’t gel their new players together quite quickly and whilst they have made some decent Spanish signings in pre-season they appear to be a little behind in their preparations.
By contrast, Burnley are as solid and together as they were when they took the Championship by storm last season and Andre Gray was the man that fired them to the title with 23 goals for Burnley last season (plus 2 for Brentford). Andre Gray is more of a short-term thing in your team unless he really hits the ground running – but we do think he has the potential to continue the excellent pre-season form he has shown in this opening game against Swansea.
Captain Pick No. 2 – Sergio Aguero
Many of you will be surprised not to see Sergio Aguero as our number one captain pick this week and whilst we do think he will score, we don’t think it will be the rout that everyone is predicting.
David Moyes has had enough time with his team to drill them and make them solid and difficult to beat – and that’s excactly what we expect to see at the Etihad for Pep’s first competitive game in the hot seat for Man City. Aguero is likely to be on the scoresheet and it is very close between him and our first choice captain – it will also require balls of steel to not pick him as captain if you have him in your side.
Sunderland will be hard to break down but they most likely will be, but it might require a little longer for these Man City players (who were not at their best last season) to really buy in to Pep’s philosophy. A patient approach will be required and we expect it to happen – but this might be more of a tight one or two goal margin game, rather than a 4 or 5 goal thriller.
