Game Week 10 Tips: An Early Assessment

Sponsored by Premier Punt

Another blockbuster week in Fantasy Premier League with some big performances from some of the expected candidates and some surprise performances from others – unless you listen to our resident expert Quigliano on the Fantasy Football Tips Podcast – yes he did tip Newcastle and more importantly Wijnaldum who stepped up with a mammoth 4 goals and 25 points!

JP was lucky enough to guest on the podcast last week and as he rightly pointed out to me in an FPL WhatsApp conversation – almost every single tip on the podcast came in! Only 3% of managers benefitted from the Wijnaldum tip and shockingly only 2.9% benefitted from the Wilfried Bony tip! Raheem Sterling was the other player to grab a hat-trick at the weekend and he will have put himself firmly on the radar again with his showing against Bournemouth.

Quigliano has moved himself in to the top 7,000 managers in the world with back to back 100+ weeks and I fully expect him to flex his ‘God Complex’ muscles once again on the podcast this week so fire any questions in for him using the comments box below – recording is at around 4pm Tuesday so get your questions in before then.

Early Game Week 10 Tips

If you haven’t enjoyed quite so much success in terms of points this season then just remember that there are still another 29 weeks to rack those points up and it all starts with GW10 this week. Although we have a full round of Champions League fixtures this week we still have some early thoughts on who to look at and who not to look at for the upcoming Premier League fixtures.

Jamie Vardy – Vs. Crystal Palace

Vardy’s career seemed to be simmering away with nothing too spectacular just last season with just 5 goals in the 2014/15 EPL season, but with 9 goals in as many games already this season is he the Harry Kane for this year? Another 2 goals last week and a very modest sub £7m price tag, it is not hard to see why nearly 37% of managers have selected the England striker. There is no reason to see why the run won’t continue when City take on Crystal Palace this week after getting beat 3-1 at home to West Ham last weekend (after going down to ten men).

Leicester have looked more fragile in recent weeks after their spectacular start to the season but they have still been dangerous in front of goal. Mahrez’s time may now be up with a string of substitute appearances (although he did get an assist last week) but Vardy is a potential captain pick for game week 10.

Wijnaldum – Vs. Sunderland

You might say that it is easy for us to tip the Dutchman after his 4 goals against Norwich, but we did tip him on the podcast last week so we are fully justified in it. One thing is for sure, there will be more than the current 3% of managers owning him in GW10. At £6.8m he now looks good value and more importantly he has 5 weeks of gorgeous looking fixtures to show us what he is made of – starting with a North East derby against Sunderland this weekend.

Quigliano has been telling me for weeks of the tough fixtures Newcastle had at the start of the season and he is convinced of a big Geordie turnaround in the coming weeks – games like Sunderland (a), Stoke (h), Bournemouth (a), Leicester (h) and Crystal Palace (a) will offer plenty of scoring chances for the midfielder. Get on now if you want a differential!

A word on Eden Hazard

If you have Hazard in your team you will have been shocked to see Mourinho drop him for the game against Aston Villa and it is a sign as to the pressure on the Portuguese manager more than anything else. Chelsea look set to revert to type and grind out some results by battening down the hatches and making themselves solid. Hazard is too much of a liability at the moment and although we expect to see him back in a starting position next weekend we don’t think it is worth the risk when there are players like Alexis Sanchez at a similar price who are in good form.

Remember to drop us a comment for this week’s podcast and remember to check in later this week when we will have our detailed game week 10 picks and our captain tips on Friday. See you then.
