Game Week 11 Captain Picks
Sponsored by Premier Punt
If international breaks weren’t enough to give Fantasy Premier League managers selection headaches then there has been the added worry associated with feisty League Cup encounters ahead of game week 11. Despite plenty of squad rotation we have already seen injuries to Christian Benteke, Diego Costa, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain plus 3 of Tuesday’s fixtures going to extra time offering extra fatigue to some of our players.
Pelle, Wilfried Bony and Kevin De Bruyne will both be popular game week 11 captain picks but with both also playing on Wednesday night it is just another question mark to consider when thinking about who to pick as captain. Mane of course was forced to sit out the midweek fixture allowing him to be available for selection against Bournemouth this weekend and may also feature as a possible captain.
So let’s assess the potential captain choices on this Halloween weekend.
Captain Picks for GW11
There is a heavyweight clash between Chelsea and Liverpool this weekend and although it probably holds very little significance in the Premier League title race it will mean a lot to their respective managers for very different reasons – we won’t be considering either set of players for captain selection due to the form of both teams.
The key players for captain this week will be based on form and fixture with the added bit of gut instinct that has seen our FPL podcast picks perform so well over the last few weeks.
Man City Vs. Norwich – Wilfried Bony or Kevin De Bruyne
The form reads well from both sides of this game – with Man City banging goals in for fun (except when it is the serious matter of a Manchester derby) and Norwich looking to have lost their way (conceding 6 to Newcastle fills us with lots of hope) and will not be relishing a trip to The Etihad.
Bony is the one who is likely to get the chances in this game (if he starts) just like he did 2 weeks ago when City destroyed Bournemouth, he bagged 2 goals on that day and could perform a similar feat this week. KDB is the other selection ahead of Raheem Sterling who grabbed his first hat-trick in the Bournemouth game and this is purely based on consistency. Sterling will be fresher than KDB but we still have question marks over his finishing, whereas KDB has a more all round game and can contribute in more ways meaning bonus point potential too. The concern over Bony is that he was pretty much outshone in midweek by Iheanacho who scored one and grabbed two assists. There are some concerns that Bony may play a small part in the Norwich game and it could be a good opportunity to give the young striker his full Premier League debut. KDB get's the nod over Bony for us for these reasons alone.
Southampton Vs. Bournemouth - Graziano Pelle and Sadio Mane
The wheels have come off a little bit for Bournemouth conceding 10 goals in their last 2 games and although that was against tough competition, Southampton don’t exactly represent a simple task and they have looked good in front of goal at times this season. Pelle is due a return to the scoresheet and Mane has been consistently high scoring since the fourth week of the season. We would go with Mane over Pelle this week purely based on the fact that he has better recent form (red card aside) and that he will be fresh to tear Bournemouth apart.
Watford Vs. West Ham – Dimitri Payet
Payet is one of those players who has started life in the Premier League on fire and he has scored no less than 5 points in a game week in the last 6 weeks, hitting the lofty heights of 16 in GW5. His value has shot up in that time and his form has been consistent, something that has seen West Ham cement third place in the league. West Ham take on Jekyll and Hyde Watford this week and if they take their A-game to Vicarage Road then they could find themselves staying in that Champions League place and Payet is usually the man with the assists and occasionally the goals. If you want a good solid differential captain pick for GW11 then Payet is your man.
A word on Harry Kane as Game Week 11 Captain
Many a manager jumped on board the Kane Train after last weekend’s hat-trick and he is probably worth having in your team as Spurs take on managerless Villa this weekend. But, let’s not forget he has still only scored 4 goals in 10 weeks and although his confidence will be up he still isn’t showing consistency. He is not going to be captain Kane for me.
