Game Week 11 Tips
Sponsored by Premier Punt
A fiendish round of fixtures awaits us in game week 11 with the final round of October fixtures taking place on Halloween. We are hoping for more treats than tricks this weekend following last weekend’s lower scoring round compared to the previous two – the average score being just 42 points in GW10.
This season so far seems to be a mix of under achievers and over achievers with West Ham, Leicester City and Chelsea perhaps being the teams most deserving of those labels – and we think you know which label goes with which team by now. Indeed, if you had said before the season started that West Ham and Leicester would be sitting 3rd and 5th in the league respectively, then you would have been laughed out of the pub or told that you were too inebriated. Whilst many FPL managers will feel that these two teams have outstayed their welcome in the top six of England’s top flight, other managers who were early adopters of their players are laughing all the way to the top of their own FPL mini-leagues. Players like West Ham’s Payet and Leicester’s Mahrez and Vardy have brought much joy to managers up and down the land, whilst those managers who have stuck by the beleaguered Chelsea players have largely been left wondering why they are throwing away their transfer budget on expensive flops who are languishing in 15th place in the Premier League.
Ahead of game week 11 we will see a round of fixtures from the last 16 of the League Cup, 13 of those teams are from the Premier League – so it is worth bearing this in mind before making early transfers this week. The League Cup fixtures are as follows:
Tuesday 27th October League Cup Fixtures:
Stoke City Vs. Chelsea
Sheffield Wednesday Vs. Arsenal
Hull City Vs. Leicester City
Everton Vs. Norwich City
Wednesday 28th October League Cup Fixtures:
Man City Vs. Crystal Palace
Liverpool Vs. Bournemouth
Southampton Vs. Aston Villa
Man United Vs. Middlesbrough
A few of the teams who have League Cup fixtures face teams in GW11 who will be fresh, notably Spurs who take on Aston Villa, Sunderland who take on Everton and Newcastle who take on Stoke City. Leicester also have a tough fixture going to West Bromwich Albion who will be fresh and fully prepared to give Leicester’s attacking prowess a stern test.
So, where are our early thoughts lying ahead of Game Week 11?
Game Week 11 Early Tips:
Resident podcast tipster Quigliano called it once again last weekend with the return of Harry Kane and there is no denying that Spurs and the England striker look to be bang in form right now. A hat-trick for Kane and 5 goals for Spurs will give them every confidence of going on a roll with the visit of Aston Villa imminent this weekend – especially with them travelling to Southampton On Wednesday. Villa may well have a new manager in place by the time of the Monday Night Football game (which could provide some resistance to Spurs and a much need motivational boost for the Midlands team) but Harry Kane will be top of most people’s lists after his hat-trick heroics.
Will it be a Bony chilling Halloween Weekend?
Man City face Norwich City this weekend after a dour 0-0 stalemate with their city rivals last weekend and both of these teams have midweek encounters. Man City have much better resources to cope with squad rotation (despite their injuries) and have an arguably better fixture which is crucially at home for both of these fixtures. The question is who will capitalise on this for Man City? Norwich conceded 6 to Newcastle and could be shipping the same number (maybe more?) against City this weekend if they are in the right frame of mind.
Kevin De Bruyne will be a key player as always for City, Raheem Sterling has also impressed recently (although less so against Man Utd) and Wilfried Bony who was poor against Man Utd will look to get back to scoring ways in this fixture. Given that game week 12 is a fixture against Aston Villa, now could be the time to fill your team with City players. KDB, Bony and Sterling are our picks of players until Aguero returns which will probably not be until the end November.
We will be back later this week with our usual captain picks, podcast team and our guest articles – but one last word on our anticipated transfer policy for the next few weeks… GW12 will be followed by another international break so we will be advocating one transfer this week with it being enough to cover GW12 too – leaving you 2 free transfers following the break – something that was key last time round.
