Game Week 12 Tips
Game Week 12 Picks
In association with Premier Punt
There is a long way to go in footballing terms between now and the start of game week 12 but we couldn’t resist having a cheeky little gander at what to expect in the next installment of the Premier League calendar. With another round of international fixtures to come between now and the Saturday lunchtime kick off between Manchester United and Arsenal, it is perhaps somewhat premature to start making those GW12 transfers – however, it never hurt to plan ahead a little – and if you are feeling like saving a bob or two and can handle the risk factor, you never know, it could pay to make the early change this week.
7 days later…
No… this is not the introduction of a new British Zombie film or a remix of a classic Craig David song but rather a look at what has happened since the last game week closed. Liverpool and Chelsea were of course the biggest success stories in GW11 and with 11 goals between the two clubs last weekend, it is pretty obvious why FPL managers are clamouring to sign their players.
The top 5 transferred in players for game week 12 are all representatives of Liverpool or Chelsea – with Eden Hazard being streets ahead of the rest. That may be because everyone already has Philippe Coutinho (who scored for his country against Argentina in midweek). Diego Costa remains a popular choice despite his potential injury and the risk of a suspension when he picks up another yellow card. Firmino and Alonso make up the other top 5 purchased players.
If we look at the other end of the spectrum and examine who is being dumped out of fantasy teams this week it is Man Utd, Man City and Arsenal players who are making way – and patience with Raheem Sterling seems to be wearing thin as he leads the transfers out leaderboard.
Alexis Sanchez is also in the shortlist as news broke last week of his minor calf injury, but (much to the probable annoyance of Wenger) he is back in training with Chile now and will possibly start in their next game – but an early Saturday kick-off at Old Trafford is enough to put us off Alexis for GW12. That being said, Arsenal go on decent run of games after this with Bournemouth, West Ham and Stoke all on the horizon – so it may be worth sticking by the Chilean who has already dropped by £0.1m this week.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the Man Utd player who is being dropped by thousands this week as he serves a one game ban for picking up 5 yellow cards. He may well come back to form and build on the brace he scored at Swansea but for now there are better options out there.
Game Week 12 Tips: Our early thoughts
As we have already said, there is a long way to go between now and the start of game week 12 – so take these predictions with a pinch of salt and be sure to check back closer to the deadline later this week.
There are a few tasty looking fixtures in GW12 and we are highlighting three top picks for penultimate game week of November.
GW12 Top Forward Pick: Jermain Defoe
A price tag of just £7.3m for a striker who is currently in the top 5 FPL forwards, is a bit of steal. The fact that Defoe finds himself isolated in a poor team and still manages to find the net is impressive. Two goals and an assist in his last two games might be a sign that there is more to come and a home game against Hull City will be another chance for Sunderland to claim a win and build on their victory against Bournemouth last time out.
Hull did pick up an impressive win of their own against the Saints in GW11 so this should be an exciting affair with both teams desperate to win. This is 100% must win for Sunderland who visit Anfield in game week 13 to play a team in Liverpool that simply cannot keep a clean sheet – a good time to bring in Defoe? Quite possibly!
GW12 Top Midfield Pick: Roberto Firmino
Firmino is a player that we have been banging on about for weeks now. In fact, in the last five weeks he has only failed to register a goal or an assist once and he currently sits as the fourth best midfield player in Fantasy Premier League. With less than 15% ownership he offers differential that Coutinho doesn’t and there is a big case to be made to put both of these players in your team. The Brazilian is playing up front for Liverpool and they dispatched Watford with such ease last Sunday that a trip to Southampton should not faze them too much.
We have already touched on Southampton’s poor result against Hull and they need a win to get out of this little rut they are in. This is the last game they need to be playing right now with Liverpool in such good form and this looks like a definite away win for the Reds.
GW12 Top Defensive Pick: Marcos Alonso
Chelsea go to Middlesbrough in gameweek 12 and they might struggle to smash five past these like they did against Everton. The Boro have been resolute at the back in recent games and have earned a point off Arsenal and Man City away from home in the last few weeks. 2 clean sheets from 3 for Middlesborugh might make you stay away from Chelsea attacking players but their defence is unlikely to be broken in this game.
Five clean sheets on the bounce for Chelsea means you need defensive coverage from the Blues. Alonso is almost playing like a winger at times in this system introduced by Antonio Conte and the player capped off last week’s top performance with a goal for himself. Expect plenty of assists from him this season and if you are considering a replacement for Bellerin then Alonso is a top choice.
We will be back later this week with out podcast and game week 12 captain picks – until then… keep fighting the good fight and keep an eye on those international injuries.
