Game Week 13 Captain Picks
Game Week 13 Captain Tips
In association with Premier Punt
After a thoroughly depressing game week last week for most Fantasy Premier League managers it was refreshing I suppose that our number one captain pick (Jermain Defoe) bagged 11 points (or 22 if you took our advice) and gave us at least something to smile about. With a trip to Liverpool on the agenda for Sunderland in game week 13 they will be hard pressed to make it 3 wins from 3 but Defoe will still be fancying his chances of more goals against what had been a leaky defence for Liverpool up until last weekend.
The fixtures do look decidedly better this week on the whole than they were last week so there is plenty to discuss when it comes to captain picks – if you want to hear who the 3 picks are from our podcast team then be sure to listen in to this week’s podcast extra (for members only) where the boys talk captains. If not, I have three top picks of my own for GW13 and I’m fairly confident about all three.
West Brom threw a spanner in the works last week with a 4 goal thumping of Burnley and with a trip to woeful Hull City on the cards this week could we see our first ever West Brom captain pick coming in to play? Read on to find out…
GW13 Captain Pick No. 3: Sergio Aguero
Last week I was lambasted by some fans for not selecting Sergio Aguero in the top 3 captain picks, but I stuck true to my thoughts and was vindicated in leaving him out of the selection ash he blanked. To be honest, given another goalless display in midweek from the Argentine ace I would probably have left him out of the captain choice this week – but what cannot be ignored is the collapse of Burnley at West Brom on Monday night.
As much as Burnley have had a little more preparation time for the game, the early kick-off on Saturday will be a good opportunity for City to silence any remaining critics. The boys from Manchester are not exactly firing on all cylinders but they are grinding out results and if Burnley don’t get their back line sorted out then this could be a great opportunity for Pep’s men to fire again.
Aguero will be probably still be a popular choice this week but I don’t think he is the best choice – so if you own one of the other two captain picks then I’d go for them – but then, as Quigliano always says… you can sleep easy on Friday night if you have captained Aguero.
GW13 Captain Pick No. 2: Philippe Coutinho
Coutinho surprised many of us last week when he turned up at Southampton and in reality he was perhaps not quite right off the back of his international exploits with Brazil when he travelled to St Mary’s. He has had a full week of rest and training since then and this Liverpool side will be relishing the prospect of the visit of a Sunderland team that is perhaps not quite so hungry for a win after two of their own.
The results last week might cause a number of shortsighted managers to look away from this fixture but if this game had come three weeks ago then almost everyone would have been tipping one of the Liverpool boys in this game. The return of Lallana would be a big boost for Coutinho, Firmino and Mane but if Liverpool play anywhere near like they did when they beat Watford 6-1 then this should be a similar scoreline with or without the England man. For me, Coutinho is the class act, with Firmino and Mane a close second and third behind him.
