In association with Premier Punt

A low scoring game week for many Fantasy Premier League managers this week as not one of the top 5 FPL midfielders managed a single goal or assist between them and with Aguero and Lukaku also blanking it was a miserable week for many. Those of you who followed our members captain pick of Jermain Defoe last week will have been richly rewarded though with the sort of differential that you can only dream of with the striker bagging you 22 points if you picked him as captain. Propelled in to second spot in terms of FPL strikers and £7.4m seems like a snip for the proven goal scorer – even if he is playing for Sunderland – who it must be said, seem to have picked up their game significantly now.

A strong performance from forgotten man Yaya Toure will give a new headache to managers across the globe and when it comes to defenders it looks like Chelsea are the go to team – despite a tough run coming up starting with a GW13 fixture against Spurs. Harry Kane reminded us with a devastating late performance against West Ham as to why he is a serious contender for selection in our Fantasy Football teams but a fixture at Stamford Bridge in gameweek 13 might be enough to put most managers off.

The international break seemed to affect the attacking exploits of both Liverpool and Arsenal who struggled to break down their respective opponents but easier home fixtures this week might see a return to winning ways for both sides.

With no more pre-amble required… let’s take a look at the best game week 13 picks.

Liverpool Vs. Sunderland

The one positive for Liverpool against Southampton was the clean sheet that they secured and they will be looking to build on that for the visit of Sunderland. Prior to the last two weeks, the Black Cats looked decidedly poor but a turnaround in fortunes might be enough to sway people away from captaining a Liverpool player in this game – not for us though.

Take your pick from Firmino and Coutinho in this game with our preference being for the former. He should have scored against the Saints and hopefully he will get more chances in this game. Adam Lallana is likely to miss out again and his absence is significant – but this will be a real test for Sunderland and we can’t see anything other than a convincing Liverpool win.

Jermain Defoe was a pick of ours last week and it came good – the pick was partly based on this fixture in as much as Liverpool do struggle to keep it clean at the back and if anyone can punish them it is Defoe. Expect to see him play up top on his own again in this fixture though as he vies for top spot ahead of Diego Costa.

Arsenal Vs. Bournemouth

Arsenal were poor against Manchester United and Arsene Wenger didn’t deny that his side’s performance at Old Trafford could have been down to their psychological state. He did have a point though when he stated that his side would have probably lost that game last season and the character (and luck) that they showed last week will probably stand them in good stead.

Bournemouth have been grinding out some decent results and an away win at Stoke last week was a very good 3 points. They play a similar style of football to Arsenal and that could play in to Arsenal’s hands more than their own.

Arsenal do have a tough home game in the Champions League on Wednesday night when they welcome PSG to the Emirates but they have to get their attention back on the league come the weekend and I expect a full strength side to go out there and win.

Alexis Sanchez is still the key man for the Gunners and Olivier Giroud is another who should be staking a claim for a start. 3 goals in 61 minutes of football spread overt the last 3 games for Giroud makes him a decent punt and with just 1.6% ownership he also offers plenty of differential. Of course, he is a risk but as we have seen his ability to come on and score when games are more stretched he remains a good option for this game.

Chelsea Vs. Spurs

Spurs were lucky against West Ham and although they did manage to grab all three points, in the end it was the late, late show from Harry Kane that saved them. We saw some defensive frailties for the first time this season from Spurs in that game and a difficult trip to Monaco on Tuesday will not help their preparation for this important derby fixture.

Chelsea have the perfect run up to the game and have a full strength squad to choose from. In addition to this they have the form and the confidence as well as a league topping position to push on from.

As much as this is not a game to put all your chips on, it is a game that favours Chelsea and Diego Costa is the key man for the Blues. Costa remains one game away from a suspension and if I were a betting man I’d say this will be the game where he will pick up the fifth yellow – but if you are brave enough to run that risk and you don’t own him – you need to have Costa in your side. If Spurs defend like they did against West Ham then he will have a field day.

Burnley Vs. Man City

Man City were hardly convincing against Crystal Palace and a tough trip to Monchengladbach in midweek will disrupt preparations for this game. Burnley only played on Monday night so they will only have had two extra days themselves to prepare for this game and it will be interesting to see which team is put out by Pep in the Champions League before we go full in on these tips.

Yaya Toure will be attracting plenty of attention given his brace against Palace and he could well be a player to gain some differential from. For us though, you need to refrain from jumping on a Yaya bandwagon as he is still going to be very susceptible to rotation as was Gundogan who himself didn’t play last week.

Aguero doesn’t go too long without scoring and given his blank in GW12 there is every chance he will score at Turf Moor. Given the poor performance of Burnley at West Brom on Monday evening Aguero will have be chomping at the bit to grab a goal or two and he could be back on the captain pick radar this week.

We will be back later this week with more gameweek 13 tips as well as the FPL podcast and our must have player of the week. We will also be having our own special Black Friday deals so be sure to check in on Friday.
