Game Week 14 Captain Picks
Game Week 14 Captain Tips
In association with Premier Punt
Game Week 14 is coming round fast and it is that time in the week when we start thinking about who to choose as captain. Now that the week’s EFL Cup fixtures have been played we can start making some GW14 predictions with a little more faith – and let’s be honest, there weren’t too many players on show who we were concerned about this week with managers shuffling their packs more than a dodgy Las Vegas blackjack dealer. The only real casualty from the week’s games is Wayne Rooney who finds himself with a suspension from the number of bookings he has picked up – but that’s only going to be of concern to 2.7% of you – so no real harm done.
From a captain pick point of view, the fixtures that stand out this week have to be the games involving Arsenal, Spurs and perhaps the Man City Vs. Chelsea game – or is it naïve to think that Pep and Conte will go in to this game with attack on the agenda.
The game week 14 podcast extra is a 37 minute bonanza this week so if you haven’t checked it out yet then you can do so here as we also talk 3 top captain picks as well as JP’s new steal or no deal feature where he suggests a cheapie to facilitate a bigger move elsewhere.
GW14 Captain Pick No. 3: Sergio Aguero
The will he won’t he debate was rife on Saturday with Fantasy Premier League managers desperately scampering to figure out whether Sergio Aguero would be fit to play – fit he was, and he punished those who doubted him. This week there is no doubt over his starting place but there will be those who doubt his captain potential - I am one of them and I have actually dropped him from my team for this week only – but with almost instant regret my nightmares of an Aguero goal or two will haunt my mind on Friday evening for sure.
The mantra of always captain Aguero is one that is on the return and let’s face it, if we did this every week then we would probably have more points than we do right now – unless you have got the call right every single time – which is doubtful.
This game against Chelsea will be tough, but City almost need this win more than the visitors, if not to just lay down a marker as if the blue steamroller continues here then they will be touted as the real deal and number one title contenders.
Not our favourite pick of the week – but a safe bet if you are going to give Sergio the armband week in week out.
GW14 Captain Pick No. 2: Charlie Austin
Charlie Austin poked a cheeky goal in against Everton and it’s fair to say we were expecting a goal from him – but he could have had more and this week we fully expect the Southampton revival to continue after an impressive win against Arsenal in the League Cup (which Austin and many first teamers didn’t play) and the England man should be ready and primed for a trip to the club with the worst football league form. Palace sunk to new lows last week as they shipped 5 at Swansea – Pardew (or Pardoo if your Bob Bradley) needs a result here to save his job but it is hard to predict anything other than a Southampton win after a pretty consistent season so far. Their recent league form might not make for the prettiest of reading but they have had some tough games and this is far from that.
