Game Week 14 FPL Tips
Game Week 14 Tips
In association with Premier Punt
A funny old week in the thirteenth week of the season with it being lucky for some and less lucky for others – but as the chips fall where they will for your Fantasy Premier League fortunes there is no time to dwell on past successes or failures – it is time to get your team in order for game week 14.
Before we head straight in to look at the top tips for GW14, lets take a moment to remind ourselves of the highs, the lows and the downright ridiculous of GW13.
Starting with the latter was a 9 goal thriller at the Liberty Stadium as Swansea put 5 goals past worst 2016 football league side Crystal Palace who did manage to hit 4 in reply but came away empty handed. A trip to Spurs awaits for Swansea who will need to defend better against Harry Kane and co whereas Crystal Palace will be welcoming Southampton in what will be another tough game for the Eagles.
Spurs themselves were taken apart by a Chelsea team despite being arguably the better side on Saturday. Chelsea head to Man City in game week 14 in a fixture that kicks off the football weekend in style – having too many players tied up in this fixture might be an issue that needs tackling before the week is out.
Alexis Sanchez reminded us that he justifies his price tag as he helped himself to 2 goals against Bournemouth and worries about a possible winter break being offered to him should not put you off having the Chilean in your team – perhaps a transfer of Hazard to Sanchez should be a popular decision this week.
Man Utd disappointed again with a 1-1 draw against West Ham at Old Trafford on Sunday – a fixture that they have the chance to play again on Wednesday when they welcome the Hammers to the Theatre of Dreams for the second time in a week (in the League Cup) and hopefully it will be less of nightmare this time around.
The distraction of European football is not an issue this week but the League Cup will impact on six of our Premier League teams this week as the Quarter Finals kick in to action on Tuesday and Wednesday. Be aware that as well as Man United and West Ham, the other teams to be affected are Hull City, Arsenal, Southampton and Liverpool.
Game Week 14 Predictions
That’s enough looking back – time to look forward to the most likely FPL winners and losers of gameweek 14.
Man City Vs. Chelsea
A tough one to call and with both of these teams having a full week of preparation there is even less to split them apart. Chelsea are the form team out of these two but home advantage for City might redress the balance in that respect. Quigliano tells me that Aguero will score in this game but I am less confident of that with this Chelsea defence only having conceded just one goal in the last 7 games and I’d say the City defence looks much more suspect. I’d be avoiding City players in this game and it certainly isn’t one to put a captain on. It could just as easily finish 0-0 as it could 2-2 but if I had to put money on it I’d go for a 2-1 win to the away side.
Diego Costa seems a reformed man in disciplinary terms since picking up his 4th yellow card and he continues to walk the suspension tightrope – if anyone will do something in this game then it is most likely to be the Spaniard as he continues to bring more than just the basic appearance points week after week.
Crystal Palace Vs. Southampton
Crystal Palace were beaten in that 9 goal thriller last weekend whilst Southampton went about their business in clinical fashion to dispatch Everton by a single goal. It’s a tough one to call but there looks only one winner with Palace unable to buy a win at the moment. Southampton have kept two good consecutive clean sheets against Merseyside opposition and whilst Palace weren’t struggling to score against Swansea, this will be an altogether sterner test in front of the sticks.
Charlie Austin was an absolute pest for the Saints against Everton and he was unlucky not to score more than the goal he poached from Josh Sims in the opening exchanges. He is the key man in this game and he is well worth a punt given the way Place defended last weekend – just check to see how much game time he gets on Wednesday night against Arsenal as that could limit what he gets at Palace.
Spurs Vs. Swansea
This is an intriguing encounter but as well as Swansea did to score 5 against Palace it didn’t mask their frailties and if they defend anything like they did against Crystal Palace then they will get a spanking at White Hart Lane. Spurs need a result this weekend after disappointment at Chelsea last week and I fully expect them to get one here. Harry Kane could be a good game week 14 captain pick and he is a player that should perform well this weekend.
Swansea managed to concede 3 against Stoke and Man Utd – both of whom have hardly been prolific so all pointers here are to a decent Spurs win. Christian Eriksen has not been far away this season when he gets the game time and he might tempt some managers – but in reality there are other players in that price range that are better long term prospects – in Harry Kane we trust this week.
