Game Week 14 Tips – Our early thoughts

Despite the fact that game week 13 is yet to conclude with a Monday night football match between Crystal Palace and Sunderland, many Fantasy Premier League managers will already have turned their attentions towards game week 14. There will be some common questions ahead of the final round of November’s games and there are also many points that we have learned in the past week or two.

Perhaps the biggest messages sent out to the FPL community off the back of GW13 have come from Romelu Lukaku, Ross Barkley and Harry Kane. In fact, the strikers department is going to be one of some contention this week with so many strikers in red hot form right now, coupled with some great fixtures and a returning Sergio Aguero to throw yet another spanner in the works.

We said it a couple of weeks ago that Everton would be looking to capitalise on a good run of fixtures and they certainly showed no mercy to a poor Aston Villa side as they thumped them 4-0 with Lukaku and Barkley getting in on the action with 2 goals each. If you are not on Lukaku right now then perhaps now is the time with Everton preparing to go to Bournemouth in GW14, followed by fixtures against Crystal Palace and Norwich. Lukaku (like most strikers) is a player who plays on confidence streaks – and his confidence is sky high right now.

We have been talking about Barkley for some time now and it was just a matter of time until things started happening for him in terms of FPL points as his performances had been excellent for Everton of late. Him and Deulofeu look like the Evertonian midfielders to opt for right now and either of those will stand you in good stead over the next 3 to 4 weeks.

With this being said – let’s look at the early questions ahead of GW14…

Will 27.4% of managers look to replace Pelle?

Over a quarter of managers have persisted with Graziano Pelle but this patience might be tested this week as he has picked up a suspension and will miss this week’s matches. With just 1 goal in his last 4 games and commanding a price tag not too far off the in form Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku it would be likely that many managers will be ditching him in favour of the strikers in form.

The biggest issue for many managers is the return of Sergio Aguero and that they will want to get him back in before the price rises too much (he has already gone up to £13.1m) but with some tough fixtures to come for Man City is it worth holding off?

With games against Southampton and Stoke City to come, it may be worth holding fire until game week 16 when City face Swansea at home before bringing him in, by which time he will be back up to full match fitness.

Top FPL Strikers next 4 fixtures:

Harry Kane: Chelsea (h), WBA (a), Newcastle (h), Southampton (a)

Romelu Lukaku: Bournemouth (a), Crystal Palace (h), Norwich (a), Leicester (h)

Sergio Aguero: Southampton (h), Stoke (a), Swansea (h), Arsenal (a)

Jamie Vardy: Man Utd (h), Swansea (a), Chelsea (h), Everton (a)

Looking at these fixtures it is clear to see that Lukaku and Everton have the easiest run and arguably Spurs have the second easiest (with the exception of Chelsea). Jamie Vardy has been added to the list due to the amount of players that own him and we would argue that despite a tough run of fixtures it is worth sticking with the record equaling striker as he is still a good cheap third striker. At least keep him until the goal run does dry up. So the question is who to pair him with?

If funds allow, the preferred strike force for the next 4 games has to be Lukaku, Vardy and Kane (in that order of preference) with a plan to bring Aguero in for the Christmas fixture mayhem.
