Game Week 17 Tips
Game Week 17 Tips - Our Early Thoughts
Sponsored by Premier Punt
It is the last weekend before Christmas this week and we are here providing you with an early Christmas present in the form of our game week 17 tips. What most of you really want of course, is a GW17 filled with points – so we are here once again to take a look and try and provide you with our finest Fantasy Premier League tips.
This week I will be taking a good look at the key fixtures – those being the ones that might make you points and the ones that might cause you to drop points.
Arsenal Vs. Man City
This is a fascinating encounter this week given the contrasting recent fortunes that these two sides have had of late. Arsenal have shown some fine form both domestically and in the Champions League, whilst City were lucky to win against Swansea last weekend but have maintained high standards in Europe. The potential of a returning Sergio Aguero could add some spice in to the mix for this encounter at The Emirates in this first Vs. second Premier League clash.
Arsenal look to have the beating of City in this given that they have home advantage and I think that Arsenal will be able to outscore City who have stuttered in the league of late. A word on Aguero – if you can hold out until the January wildcard to bring him back then that would be my advice – he is being touted as being available for this clash but I wouldn’t bank on him lasting the 90 minutes and we know that Pellegrini does not want to rush him back – the resting of KDB last weekend also leads me to think that Pellegrini is trying to prepare his team for a game without Aguero.
I foresee a 2-1 win for Arsenal (or something in that region) with both teams scoring and both conceding – it could also be time to ditch your City defenders as they are starting to rotate a little more – that being said, I can see Kolarov playing in this one with Sagna also featuring against his old club.
Keep hold of your Arsenal players as they have some good fixtures to come – Ozil is the still the key man (getting another assist in GW16) with Monreal or Bellerin also worthy of consideration.
Watford Vs. Liverpool
We have been promoting the strike force of Flores’ Watford side for the last 3 weeks (and with good reason too) and initially we were thinking of dropping Deeney/Ighalo this week but with Liverpool conceding goals all over the place we would like to hang on to a Watford striker for one more week. Watford have been equally effective in defence and for that reason it is best to stay away from a Liverpool striker. It probably isn’t a week to put Ighalo or Deeney in your side but if you have one of them then I’d say stick for this week.
Liverpool are showing glimpses of what they are capable of but their defence has been suspect in the last couple of games. They were lucky to come out of the WBA game with a draw after Origi equalised in the 96th minute of the match – we cant be sure which striker we will see so the only two serious options to consider from Liverpool are Coutinho and the recently returned Jordan Henderson.
Chelsea Vs. Sunderland
This article is being written just prior to the Monday night GW16 game between Leicester and Chelsea (so check the comments at the bottom for updates), but with a much improved Chelsea performance in The Champions League against Porto we are expecting the Chelsea comeback to continue against Sunderland here. Big Sam has tried to steady the Sunderland ship but is really up against it until he can bring in some new personnel in January. If Chelsea can get a first half goal in this game then it could be curtains for the Black Cats quite early on in this encounter. Chelsea will come good at some point and this could be the catalyst for it. If you can’t find the money to splash out on Hazard then Willian or Diego Costa are the men to opt for. I am not suggesting the time is right to fill up on Chelsea players, but it would certainly make sense to get one or two in with the fixtures they have.
Stoke Vs. Crystal Palace
After a poor start to the season, Stoke City have suddenly found some very good form. The brilliant thing about Stoke right now is that they have a team full of differential players with only goal keep Butland having more than 3.4% ownership (Butland has 16.6%).
There are a few options to gain the differential points from Stoke and in a number of positions. If it is a cheap defender you are looking for then Wollscheid represents massive value at just £4.4m and has 5 clean sheets in his last 6 games and 5 bonus points from those games too. In midfield, the main man has to be Arnautovic or Shaqiri. The former represents the best value, has played more games and scored more FPL points at just £6.1m and with Stoke taking on Crystal Palace in GW17 he could be a good shout.
