Game Week 18 and 19: The Differential Pick

If you are fed up of your template team picking up the same amount of points as everyone else in your mini-league then perhaps it is time to start looking at one or two differential picks. With just 2 game weeks left until the January wildcard window opens it is likely that the teams will mix up a little for the beginning of 2016 – so why not get a head start on your mates by considering our differential tips for GW18 and GW19.

For the purposes of this article any player with an ownership of 10% or less has been considered.

Dele Alli – Spurs - £5.2m – 7% Ownership

The young England international midfielder has made quite an impact this season following his time spent at MK Dons and he looks the real deal. He has shown in his last few games how much of an impact he can have at Spurs and with a goal, assist and clean sheet in his last game and a total of 23 points from his last 3 games he could be a snip at £5.2m.

Add to his impressive form the fact that Spurs are about to embark upon a dream run of fixtures that sees them play Norwich and Watford in the Christmas games, we don’t think you would be barking down the wrong Alli (sorry – I’ve been reading too many awful Christmas cracker jokes) by opting to put Dele in your team. I imagine that when the wildcard kicks in, he will be selected by a lot more managers as they look to save money to buy Aguero – so act now if you can and get that late 2015 differential.

Yannick Bolasie – Crystal Palace - £6.2m – 6.2% Ownership

Bolasie has shown in small patches the potential that he holds both last season and in small parts this season too. 4 goals and 1 assist is not a great return based on his ability but Palace have been in indifferent form over the last few games but have a really nice double header against Bournemouth (a) and Swansea (h) over the Christmas weekend and Bolasie is due a good run.

Injuries to Cabaye, Wickham, Sako, Jedinak and Gayle will put a lot more pressure on him to perform and I would not be surprised to see Crystal Palace put in a couple of really good performances in the final two games of the year. It’s a little more risky than Alli but the potential rewards are huge!

David Silva – Man City - £10m – 6.2% Ownership

A player who is well recovered from injury now and who has clearly been forgotten by many is David Silva. We retweeted a tweet earlier this week that showed Silva topping almost every assist stat in the Premier League for the last few seasons and it is a timely reminder of the damage that he can cause teams. He is the assist king and chips in with a few goals to boot.

Silva is yet to score this season but he already has 6 assists to his name in just 633 minutes of football. He has had 12 assists for each of the last 3 seasons and last season he scored 12 goals, with 7 his total the season before. It is a foolish man (or woman) who disregards the value of Silva and with Man City having the best recent home form in the league (and a home game against struggling Sunderland this weekend) I would love to get Silva back in my team. It is between Silva and KDB of course – but if you are looking for differential then Silva has it in abundance with the same ownership as Yannick Bolasie – a stat that will definitely increase in the new year.
