Game Week 18 – First Thoughts
Game Week 18 Tips – First Thoughts
Sponsored by Premier Punt
Although we still have the big Monday Night Football match between Arsenal and Man City to play, it is time to start to turn our attention to the Boxing Day fixtures of game week 18 and it is fair to say that this FPL season has now settled down as we head in to the half way point and has started to become a little more predictable – I certainly enjoyed this week with all 3 of my captain picks scoring (and two of them scoring two goals) and I will be heading into Christmas with a much happier mood.
As much as Christmas is a time for families, exchanging gifts and over indulging in over priced food and drink – it is also a time to get your team in shape for a heavy fixture schedule. Two games in 48 hours for many teams will test the depth of squad and the same can be said of your FPL team – this is the time when you will need your subs to be ready to step up and certainly isn’t the time to be using the old bench boost chip – save that for 2016 if you haven’t cashed it in just yet. Game Week 18 Picks
Game Week 18 might be being played on Boxing Day but I doubt it will be a dreary affair and I am predicting lots of goals for the top teams to help nurse that sore head after some over indulgence on the big day. With Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs and Man City all having home fixtures against teams who they should score plenty against, there is much to be optimistic about.
Man City Vs. Sunderland
I may be wrong, but I am expecting Sergio Aguero to play against Arsenal and if he does and he comes through unscathed then he will be a top captain pick for GW18. David Silva, Raheem Sterling and of course KDB will also be on the lookout for goals in this one. Sunderland just aren’t equipped to deal with this full force of a City attack and I expect a few goals for City and possibly Aguero in this one.
Chelsea Vs. Watford
Following Chelsea’s victory over Sunderland lots of FPL managers will be thinking the time is right to flood their teams with Chelsea players. I would be suggesting that you wait until January and see what Hiddink does with the team. Costa is almost guaranteed his place but cannot justify his price tag right now and the defence is not up to it against this very well drilled Watford side that have worked their way up to 7th in the Premier League table. If you have Ighalo (who we suggested as captain last week) then I would be in no rush to drop him against Chelsea and Spurs as he is likely to play both games due to a lack of squad depth for Watford – plus he is bang in form right now. Personally, if I didn’t have players from these teams then I would be looking elsewhere this weekend.
Liverpool Vs. Leicester
Last week I correctly predicted lots of goals at Everton (it’s nice when all your tips pay off – it doesn’t always happen) and this week I am predicting the same for Liverpool. The common denominators here are that Liverpool’s defence is just as poor as Everton’s right now and the fact that Leicester City are the opposition. There is only one team I would be backing in this game to win and that is Leicester and I fully expect Vardy to be fit to play and Mahrez to be in the mix again. I would be staying away from Liverpool until we see some consistency and will back Leicester to remain top of the league by the end of the year.
Spurs Vs. Norwich
Norwich heaped pressure on Manchester United last weekend with a well deserved victory at Old Trafford and they will be full of confidence going to White Hart Lane on Boxing Day. That being said, their form is rather patchy and I expect Spurs to be right up for this game as they look to make a statement to keep that Champions League place in the league that they now occupy.
A goal and an assist from Alli will see his stock rise further and he has to now be considered a hot prospect in FPL terms and is still a snip at £5.1m. With 4 goals and 5 assists in just over 1000 minutes of Premier League football this season and with his last 3 games returning 12, 2 and 9 points he is a fantastic cheap midfielder who could return big again this weekend. Harry Kane continues to impress and is also worthy of consideration – perhaps if you have Giroud who is more prone to rotation at this time of year.
