Game Week 2 Captain Pick
Game Week 2 Captain Picks
Brought to you in association with Premier Punt
With such an influx of new managers to the Premier League (and of course the usual big transfers) this was always going to be an incredibly difficult season to predict. Game Week 1 answered some questions but also potentially raised a few new ones and we go in to game week 2 with many unknowns ahead of us.
Will Jamie Vardy score against a frail Arsenal defence?
Will Riyad Mahez stay at Leicester City?
Will Ibrahimovic be a star at Man Utd and hold a ‘must have’ status as an FPL player?
Will Coutinho flourish under Jurgen Klopp?
And that is just the beginning!
We have already seen the brilliance of Coutinho’s performance against Arsenal have an impact on Fantasy Premier League as the Brazilian became the first player to increase in price to £8.1m – a move that will frustrate many managers this week hoping to take him in to their teams. Stephen Kingsley (Swansea) and Alvaro Negredo (Middleborough) also saw their value increase by £0.1m after strong opening games and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Jermain Defoe, Leroy Fer, Ross Barkley and Ben Foster added to the list of FPL players that will see an increase in price this week.
Does any of this have any relevance in terms of captain picks for game week 2? Let’s take a look at our top 3.
FPL Captain Pick No. 3: Riyad Mahrez
The Algerian ace scored last weekend in what was a pretty tepid game from Leicester’s point of view, but after seeing Arsenal’s defensive frailties against Liverpool on Sunday, Leicester fans will have renewed optimism for this game.
Mahrez could well have been on his way to Arsenal (and could still well be) and there is no better way for him to showcase his talents before the end of the August transfer deadline than performing well in this game. Mahrez will have plenty of opportunity to wreak havoc in the Arsenal backline that may well see the return Laurent Koscielny, but even if the Frenchman does return – Arsenal will be very concerned and Mahrez represents an excellent captain pick this week.
FPL Captain Pick No. 2: Ibrahimovic
Zlatan Ibrahimovic looked at his scintillating best when he scored a beauty of a goal against Bournemouth last week and with Mourinho’s first Old Trafford Premier League match taking place this Friday night we could see another blistering attacking performance. Anthony Martial is another United player that could provide some good returns in this game but we prefer the Swedish Superstar to come up trumps as he takes centre stage at the Theatre of Dreams – FPL backers will be dreaming of big points returns in this one.
