Game Week 2 Captain Pick:
Sponsored by Premier Punt
Following the difficult first week for many managers, the game week 2 captain choice is as important as ever. The main questions being asked this week are whether Aguero will start against Chelsea, whether Hazard can perform against a big team like Man City – and ultimately – who should I captain in game week 2?
We aim to make the decision a little bit easier for you…. One thing to remember this week is the early deadline on Friday at 6.45pm due to the Aston Villa match.
The stand out fixture from a Fantasy Premier League point of view this week has to be the Liverpool Vs. Bournemouth game in which many people are tipping Benteke to score his first competitive goal for the Reds. It is hard to argue against it but there other contenders to consider too.
Liverpool looked very efficient against a good Stoke side last weekend and Bournemouth at home will offer fantastic potential for a captain pick. Jordan Ibe might make way for Firmino this weekend but we will not be pinning our hopes on a player new the Premier League, however Coutinho will be a popular player this week too. A clean sheet could well be in the offing for Liverpool again so Clyne represents a good pick given how he bombed forward in a tough away game last week.
Our GW2 Captain Picks:
Christian Benteke – Liverpool Vs. Bournemouth
Given that Benteke has one of the most prolific strike rates in the Premier League we fully expect him to score against Bournemouth. We saw him in destructive form in pre-season and he played well against Stoke. We expect to see him have a bit more freedom at Anfield this week and he could terrorise a potentially naïve Bournemouth backline – although they will be used to a bit of Rough and Tumble from the Championship. The only downside to picking Benteke as captain this week is that he will be a very popular pick – so should he fail to bag a goal then you will have missed out on a chance to take points off other managers.
Wayne Rooney – Aston Villa Vs. Man Utd
The Friday night kick off may catch out some managers but we expect Man Utd to be ready and up for this one. Both teams had stuttering 1-0 victories in the first game of the season, but Villa were fortunate that they faced a less than ruthless set of attacking players and they will be fully tested at Villa Park this week. Rooney does not have the best record of scoring goals recently at Villa Park but he is the main attacking threat from Man Utd and we would recommend him as a good captain pick this week.
Pelle – Southampton Vs. Everton
Pelle was in fine form in pre-season and represents a good differential chance this week against an Everton team that shipped two goals last week whilst playing newly promoted Watford. Pelle will be certain to start the game and we could see another 2+ goal game here, hopefully with at least one for Pelle.
Game Week 2 Summary:
This is a tough week to pick a captain and even at this stage it really depends on what you want to get out of this week. Do you want to take a risk and try and catch those ahead of you or do you want to try and pull away. I would suggest that if you are behind others and you have Benteke then you pick him as captain, if you are ahead of most others then you could probably take more of a risk and go for another player. Either way, this week looks a little bit like a game of Roulette, so spin the wheel and take your chance.
We will be emailing out our final captain pick tomorrow morning so make sure you have subscribed… it’s free.
