As highlighted in our game week 20 tips there are some very tempting fixtures in GW20 in terms of captain choice and we have picked our top 3 for the first round of 2016 Premier League fixtures. You can also check out our captain picks on the podcast which should be live by 5pm (GMT) New Years Eve – you can check our FPL Podcast here.

Captain Pick No. 3: Riyad Mahrez Vs. Bournemouth

Like Leicester, Bournemouth have had a tough festive period and both of these teams have failed to score in their last two games which some might say would point towards a 0-0 bore draw. With Leicester playing at home I think that is highly unlikely we will see a repeat of the 1-1 draw when these two teams met in August and the fortunes of these two sides have been very different since that meeting. That being said, the form in the last 6 games in identical with both teams having won 3, drawn 2 and lost 1 in that time.

Riyad Mahrez looked brilliant in patches against Man City and will face a much easier task in this game. Eddie Howe does have his Bournemouth side pretty well drilled but both of these teams like to play attractive free flowing football and this game holds huge importance to both clubs for different reasons. Mahrez continues to be the top FPL points scorer and he has a fantastic opportunity to add more assists and goals to his tally here.

The game against Man City saw Claudio Ranieri play 5 in midfield but is expected to go back to the 4-4-2 system that has fared them so well this season, this will allow Mahrez more space to work his magic from midfield and I predict a return of at least 7 points in this game for the Algerian wizard.

Captain Pick No. 2: Harry Kane Vs. Everton

Spurs and Everton have the third and fourth best attacks (in terms of goals scored) in the Premier League and if Everton’s home game against Stoke this week was anything to go by we could be in for a cracker in this game. The big pointer in this game is that Everton by contrast to Spurs also have a pretty poor defensive record, whereas Spurs currently have the meanest defence in the league.

Harry Kane has been in fine form of late with 3 goals and 1 assist in his last 3 games. He will relish the opportunity of taking on an Everton defence that has conceded 7 in its last 3 games and is looking to be lacking somewhat in terms of experience at the back.

Don’t hold out for a Spurs clean sheet in this one though as the Toffees put 3 past Stoke who had been very solid until that game. Kane is the main man for Spurs and is currently the fourth highest points scorer in the league and I fully expect to see him on the scoresheet at least once at Goodison Park this weekend.
