Game Week 20 Tips, Captain and Wildcard

Game Week 20 - All wrapped up in one place

With less than 18 hours separating the end of GW19 and the start of GW20 there is little time to nurse a New Year hangover as we plan to make a successful start to our 2017 Fantasy Premier League campaign. The New Year fixtures have already thrown up some surprise results with many of us still getting over the hat-trick heroics of Andre Gray – especially as my mini-league leader put him in for just this week! With the wildcard button being pressed by thousands of managers already – there is little time to get your team in order for just one transfer – let alone an entire squad reshuffle.

Due to the short turnaround time all of our game week 20 tips will be in this article and may well be updated as we head to the 11.30am Monday deadline so be sure to keep checking back.

We will be covering the usual tips along with the game week 20 captain choice and a look at whether or not you should play your wildcard straight away.

Game Week 20 Tips

There was not too much rotation of players for GW19 which means there will almost definitely be more rotation in these upcoming games. Chelsea and Spurs don’t play until Wednesday so they will be far less likely to rotate and the significance of this game on the title race is another indicator that there will be minimum disruption.

Stoke were able to penetrate Chelsea twice at Stamford Bridge and both Spurs and Chelsea scored plenty in GW19 pointing towards a belter of a game at White Hart Lane this week. Harry Kane, Diego Costa and Dele Alli are the key players in this game and unless the managers decide to batten down the hatches then any of this trio are worth having in your team – as for the wildcard, again you will probably want at least two of those players in your team.

Crystal Palace Vs. Swansea

Swansea looked truly awful from a defensive point of view against Bournemouth and the sacking of Bob Bradley did nothing to inspire the players to pick up their game. A trip to Big Sam’s Crystal Palace will be a tough game and they could well find themselves on to another hiding if Palace’s attacking players find their groove. Andros Townsend in midfield is a top pick at £5.9m and Christian Benteke is well worth a spot in your team. The Palace fixtures look kind over the next 6 weeks or so and an attacking Palace player should make your team during this period.

Sunderland Vs. Liverpool

Sunderland need to pick up their performances and a bad defeat at Burnley last week will do nothing to instill confidence in anyone associated with the North East club. Liverpool will be hoping for an easier and more open game than the dull affair that they edged through against Man City on New Years Eve. The resting of Origi for the first hour of that game will point towards a start in this one – if he does then he will have a great chance to add to his goal tally. The must have player for the Reds though has to be Adam Lallana and if you are still avoiding him in your team – have a word with yourself and stick him in. Sadio Mane will be heading off to the Africa Cup of Nations so there will be plenty of responsibility on the shoulders of the England man over the next month – he is our top pick for this game.

West Brom Vs. Hull

This is the other stand out fixture for gameweek 20 – and it is not very often WBA or Hull City are mentioned in a standout fixture for the right reasons. In this game we are of course focusing on the home side who will have every chance of another 3 points to add to their impressive recent points haul. This should be a clean sheet for West Brom’s cheap defenders and Matty Phillips is the attacking player you need. This is not us jumping on a bandwagon as our premium members would testify – Phillips has been a must have player for us in recent weeks and he has rewarded those who took the tip.

Man City Vs. Burnley

Burnley have showed some steel over the last couple of weeks and they go in to this game high on confidence – which is more than can be said for Man City who look all the less likely to win the Premier League title this season after a drab 1-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool. Sergio Aguero is the sort of player who can deliver in this sort of fixture but expect to see a low scoring win for the home side in this fixture.

There are serious question marks over this City side and for the first time in a long time it may prove worthwhile not backing these City players in favour of others who are more consistent and cheaper.

Sorry boys – he should have had a penalty and the injury was unfortunate. As I always say, take the tips and make your own decisions.
