Game Week 23 Captain Picks
Game Week 23 Captain Picks
The FA Cup has sparkled this weekend and has served to remind us of the magic of the cup, however the lure of the Premier League and game week 23 is too much for us to admire the feats of the non Premier League clubs against supposedly superior opposition for too long. With Arsenal and Man City being the Premier League sides that shone the brightest there is plenty to ponder ahead of the midweek GW23 fixtures. We have already taken a look at gameweek 23 but with captain choice having an ever increasing importance you will want to be on one of our top three picks for this week.
As always, the number one captain pick is reserved for our premium members – so make sure you are signed in to read the full article.
GW23 Captain Pick No. 3: Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Expect a very different game here compared to the cup game last week and with United looking like they can win trophies again this season there is a more optimistic feel around Old Trafford again. With things starting to get a bit more serious in the Premier League Jose Mourinho will be targeting this fixture to send a message out to those teams above and the likes of Zlatan Ibrahiovic (who has been instrumental in the upturn in their form) will be looking to build on his already impressive goal tally.
A poor result in the cup for Hull is perhaps a blessing in disguise as they will be able to focus on their Premier League survival bid, but having sold two of their top players this will be a very tough test indeed for the Yorkshire side. Dismiss the mighty Zlatan at your peril this weekend!
GW23 Captain Pick No. 2: Alexis Sanchez
Arsenal were at their scintillating best on Saturday as they thrashed Southampton 5-0 and although Sanchez was given a break the belief that this will give the Arsenal players will be considerable. Arsenal and Spurs are perhaps the only real contenders to pressure Chelsea in the title race and the rest afforded to Alexis at the weekend may well give him the freshen up that he looks like he needs.
He continued his goal scoring form last time out to defeat Burnely from the penalty spot and the Watford side (that suffered defeat to Millwall on Sunday) will be no match for the Gunners. If Arsenal don’t score at least 3 goals in this game then I’ll eat my virtual hat (insert your own emoji) and it will Alexis and Giroud who are the main threats. It will be interesting to see if Theo Walcott will get a start after his hat-trick heroics but it is a bit too early to bring back the England man – and the same applies to Danny Wellbeck who scored a brace coming back from a 20 month lay off.
