Game Week 23 Captain Tips
Game Week 23 Captain Picks
Sponsored by Premier Punt
GW22 was a good week for many managers in terms of captain choice with the likes of Diego Costa and Harry Kane scoring well and of course Sergio Aguero just blowing them away with 2 goals and an assist. With game week 23 being the last week in January, managers will be eager to ensure that they follow up last week’s result with another top captain pick.
We have searched high, low and everywhere in between this week to try and bring you 3 top captain choices – one of which is always reserved for our premium members – but hey, the other two are pretty good too.
GW23 Captain Pick No.3: Roberto Firmino
There was a lot expected of Firmino when he joined Liverpool in the Summer and it is fair to say that it has taken a while for him to sparkle, but with a dazzling display against Arsenal last week followed by a tough game against Man Utd he could be ready to show his class again this week as the Red’s travel to Carrow road in a clash with Norwich City.
Norwich have been pretty lackluster this season and are hovering precariously above the relegation zone. Liverpool look like they are finding some attacking rhythm under Jurgen Klopp right now and it also looks like their German manager prefers Firmino as his main striker over Christian Benteke. Reports (however wild) that Daniel Sturridge might have played his last game for Liverpool would indicate that Klopp is happy with his front line options and the fact that Firmino is categorized as a midfielder make him all the more tempting as a captain choice. The high intensity game that Liverpool play should be enough to break Norwich down and if Firmino does start then he could be rewarding managers who put their faith in him.
He is a slightly risky pick, but he has huge differential as a captain pick.
GW23 Captain Pick No. 2: Romelu Lukaku
Lukaku has been in a quiet spell of late and didn’t even manage as much as an assist when Everton registered 3 goals against Chelsea last weekend, but it is at home where he has been most potent this season and with Swansea visiting Goodison Park this week he will fancy his chances.
Our podcast expert Quigliano is convinced that Lukaku will score this week and called him out as the Gary of the Week (the guaranteed performer) against a Swansea side that managed to beat Watford in the Monday night game. Quigliano described that game as a false dawn for Swansea and expects them to struggle in this match against Everton with Lukaku profiting from their poor play.
