Game Week 25 Tips
Gameweek 25 Picks
Sponsored by Premier Punt
We have a very quick turnaround until game week 25 kicks off and we are here with our usual early look at the fixtures. I predicted that GW24 would be a fairly high points week for many and this has already proved to be the case even though there are still four teams left to play. Seven clean sheets in the first 8 games means that many players were rewarded with extra points for their defenders with bonus points being given to an array of defenders. Having 11 points fro Borthwick-Jackson on my bench is killing me unless Zouma has a similar impact tonight! That being said, 2 clean sheets out of two for my other defenders has given my team a much needed boost after I dropped Alli from my wildcard team in favour of Dimitri Payet – I am sure I will be rewarded in time but Alli has cemented himself as a ‘must have’ player now if he hadn’t already.
Game Week 25 Tips
GW25 kicks off with a crucial top of the table clash at the Etihad between Man City and Leicester City and the result of this is anyone’s guess. Leicester have kept 5 clean sheets in their last 6 Premier League games and one of those was a goalless draw with Man City at the King Power Stadium at the back end of 2015. I am leaning towards this being a more exciting affair with Man City taking the game to Leicester and then them hitting back on the break.
We noticed how much City missed Kevin De Bruyne against Sunderland as they limped over the line to claim a narrow 1-0 victory in the North East. Pellegrini’s men have a slightly more expansive approach at home and they need to avoid defeat in this game as pundits are admitting that Leicester have a serious chance of winning the title this season. 6 points would be a huge gap for Man City to claw back.
Aguero will be a popular pick as his goal scoring run continues but I don’t think he is nailed on to score a hatful so the captain choice might need to be considered from a wider pool of players. At the same time I won’t be backing Leicester defenders for a clean sheet and if I had to pick a score I would plump for a 2-2 draw. Stay away from this game in terms of predictions as Leicester have been so unpredictable this season so far.
Liverpool Vs. Sunderland
Liverpool were outclassed by Leicester in midweek and Sunderland by contrast were unlucky to lose to Man City as they rallied in the final quarter of the game. This is another game that is difficult to predict but I do think that Klopp will be really gearing his players up for a big win in this game. They cannot defend for toffee and they might come unstuck against a more adventurous than usual Sam Allardyce team.
I will give Firmino one more chance to recapture his form this weekend and I think this game will all boil down to who scores first and when. An early goal for Liverpool and this could be a classic, but an early goal for Sunderland and it might be a very drab affair.
With one eye on Liverpool not playing in GW27 it is not time to start bringing in a raft of players from Merseyside – Everton miss that week too!
Bournemouth Vs. Arsenal
Arsenal have lost some of their sparkle of late and this was compounded by a frustrating 0-0 draw with Southampton on Tuesday. Arsenal created a huge amount of chances but failed to find their way to the back of the net. Bournemouth enjoyed an excellent result against Crystal Palace and they will be looking for more of the same here.
Arsenal have been solid defensively and I would expect to see their defenders get another clean sheet here, but Afobe who has scored 3 in 3 games will be out to stop that. Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil remain the top prospects for this game, whilst Gabriel might continue to be that value pick in defence.
Top Picks of the Week
West Ham had a another good result against Villa in midweek and are comfortably in 6th place in the league and will want to extend the gap to Southampton this weekend. Their defence have performed well of late and they have some great looking fixtures coming over the next few weeks. Aaron Cresswell would be my pick at £5.6m as a player who enjoys getting forward and supporting the attack, he picked up all 3 bonus points against Aston Villa and looks set for a good run with Southampton (a), Norwich (a) and Sunderland (h) the next 3 fixtures.
The New Boys
There have been a few decent moves this week with new player signings at Everton and Stoke City. We will be reviewing the arrivals of Imbula and Niasse as well as the move of Andros Townsend to Newcastle for our premium members ahead of game week 25 so make sure you check that out later this week.
The gameweek 25 captain picks will be in on Friday this week so make sure you are checking back regularly as there is a pretty short run up to GW25.
