Game Week 26 Captain Picks

It may be Valentines Day on Sunday but there is not going to be much love lost between rival Fantasy Premier League managers up and down the land this weekend and as always it is the captain choice that could make or break your week and can be the difference between leap-frogging your opponents or getting trapped at the bottom with the pond weed.

When it comes to the gameweek 26 captain choice it may serve us better to look away from Man City and Spurs players who go head to head at the Etihad this weekend in what some will consider to be a season defining game for both clubs. If City lose this one then they will be cut adrift from the top 3 and how bad that is will very much depend on the results at the Emirates as Leicester take on Arsenal. With all the top four clubs playing each other, not only will it be a crucial weekend in the title race but it will also make for some difficult points scoring in FPL. That being said, there are some other top fixtures for game week 26 can we have our top 3 captain tips for you now.

As always we will email our definitive last minute captain pick out on Saturday morning so make sure you are on our email list and join the thousands of fans who stay bang up to date with what we are doing here at Fantasy Football Tips.

GW26 Captain No. 3: Roberto Firmino

Liverpool were deservedly beaten by a good West Ham side on Tuesday in their FA Cup replay in a fixture that saw a half strong lineup put out by Jurgen Klopp. It also marked the return of Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge who both made substitute appearances whilst Christian Benteke started the match. Roberto Firmino was not even in the squad and looks to have been rested for this weekend’s clash with Aston Villa.

Firmino has had a decent last few weeks in FPL and he was my own personal captain last weekend when he scored and assisted much to my joy. Villa did see an upturn in their fortunes when they claimed just their third win of the season at home to Norwich last weekend but this represents a much tougher challenge – even though Liverpool are very Jekyll and Hyde. It doesn’t really matter how many Liverpool concede for this captain pick and I certainly wouldn’t be pinning anything on them keeping a clean sheet – but they have looked pretty decent in front of goal with Firmino up front and he looks like a top pick for GW26.

GW26 Captain No. 2: Romelu Lukaku

Lukaku is due an FPL break next week with the rest of the Everton squad as they fall victim to Liverpool progressing to the Capital One Cup Final so their Premier League match has been shifted to an (as yet) unspecified date. He scored from the penalty spot against Stoke when his team scored 3 and Everton look like a serious force going forward (like they have all season). Only Leicester and Man City have scored more goals than Everton this season and Lukaku is leading the line with 16 goals this term already.

I fully expect Lukaku to score against West Brom who played a tough 120 minutes on Wednesday away to Peterborough in their FA Cup replay. Although West Brom did rest a few players, they also played a number of their senior players and this will be a real tough game for the Black Country side.

This could be another win to nil for Everton who have suddenly sorted their defensive side of the game out whilst retaining their cutting edge going forward.
