Game Week 26 Tips
Game Week 26 Picks

Last weekend saw many teams score well despite many of the top teams playing each other and it was yet another reminder that you cannot underestimate the power of Leicester City and Riyad Mahrez in particular. Two goals for Robert Huth gave a massive boost to the managers that stuck by him and his goals have seen Leicester open up a 5 point gap at the top of the league. Can Leicester win the league? If they manage to beat Arsenal this week then you would have to say they most probably will win the league! Anyway, enough looking backwards, let’s get on with this weeks’ game week 26 picks.
GW26 is the last chance to prepare your team for the GW27 blank for Man City, Newcastle, Liverpool and Everton. With this in mind, if you have 2 or more players from these sides (Aguero excluded) then you should most probably either be taking one of those players out this week or saving for a double free transfer ahead of gameweek 27. Aguero is the obvious exception to this rule as he can sit on your bench during GW27 as you are almost definitely set to lose money by dropping him – he is now a ridiculous £13.6m!
If you followed our 8 game strategy a couple of weeks back then you will have prepared your squad well for this week. Matt Targett missing the last 2 games is not helpful to those of us with cheap subs in our squad but Borthwick-Jackson at Man Utd is a decent selection at just £4m having played the last few games for United. He is owned by just 1% of managers and will offer you good squad depth over the next few weeks. He has impressed since being given a run in the team and he really gets forward and supports the attack – which now actually looks much better! Whatever you do this week, you need to make sure you have squad depth for GW27 unless you have none of the blankers.
Game Week 26 Top Picks
Hopefully we are in for another bumper points week this week, here are the fixtures that we think look likely.
Swansea Vs. Southampton
Southampton have become the clean sheet kings once again and this has conincided with the return to the team of Fraser Forster.
At just £4.9m it is surprising that just 2.5% of players own the England man, but with 5 clean sheets in a row I wouldn’t be surprised to see his ownership rocket. If you have Joe Hart in goal then he is an obvious swap ahead of the blank week and a trip to Swansea this weekend represents another excellent clean sheet opportunity. Easy points!
Aston Villa Vs. Liverpool
Villa recorded just their third win of the season last weekend against Norwich, whilst Liverpool lost a 2 goal lead after many of their supporters walked out during a protest over future ticket prices. Depsite this, Liverpool dominated the game and Roberto Firmino looke good up front once again and bagged another goal and a very unselfish assist to bring a good return to those who captained him.
He is probably not one to bring in this week due to the blank GW27 but if you have him then I would suggest you hold on to the Brazilian forward until next week at least. Value wise you can probably afford to drop him next week and bring him back after if you so wish. A lot will depend on if Daniel Sturridge returns to the team – he was on the bench against Sunderland and could be a threat to Firmino’s position up front. That being said, Firmino should definitely be safe for the trip to Villa.
Man City Vs Spurs
After the defeat to Leicester in GW25, City simply have to win this game if they have designs to win the league. Spurs are playing the best football they have played all season and they are also grinding results out at the moment. Don’t expect a clean sheet for either side in this game and I would be edging towards a Spurs win at the Etihad.
There has been plenty of off the field distraction regarding the imminent arrival of Pep Guardiola and this may have taken some of the players’ eyes off the ball (literally). The City defence without Vincent Kompany is horrific and the half time withdrawal of Yaya Toure against Leicester spoke volumes. I would not be surprised if he were to be dropped. David Silva is doing no-one any favours at the moment and does not deserve a place in your team on current form, whilst Aguero continues to scramble goals in each game.
Harry Kane and Dele Alli are must have players in FPL right now and if you don’t have them you need to move heaven and earth to get them in. You know it makes sense.
Everton Vs. West Brom
Everton just cannot stop scoring goals and they look excellent going forward. Again, there are concerns over the lack of a GW27 for their players so its perhaps not time to bring in a raft of their players but this does look like a good opportunity for the Toffees to bag a few more goals. Ross Barkley has now reached the lofty heights of 3rd best midfielder and at just £7.4m is a really decent proposition.
Defensively, Everton have also improved and Mori and Coleman look like good options who can get a goal at a good price.
Bournemouth Vs. Stoke
Bournemouth had a tough time against Arsenal who controlled that game brilliantly. Benik Afobe failed to make it 4 goals in 4 games but he is a good choice for gameweek 26 against a Stoke side that has seriously lost its way. Imbula failed to spark any kind of revival last weekend and this will be a tough test for the Potters. Afobe is an excellent attacking option who will bring you some much needed differential if he scores – I think he will this week!
