Game Week 27 Tips
Game Week 27 Picks: The must have players
Sponsored by Premier Punt
One week with no Fantasy Premier League action feels like a lifetime and no amount of Champions League and FA Cup football can fill this lonely void left in my life… luckily it is only a matter of days until the Premier League fixtures return, albeit with a somewhat decimated fixture list.
Unless you have been hiding under rock (which seemingly someone in my FPL WhatsApp group has been) you will be completely aware that Man City, Newcastle, Liverpool and Everton will be blanking game week 27 due to the Capital One Cup final between Liverpool and Man City. This will make for a much more interesting captain pick this week given that we have no guaranteed Aguero to select – the gameweek 27 captain picks will be here later this week.
Now, I am assuming you have already read our ‘gameweek 27 – who to drop’ article from early last week but we have seen plenty happen between then and now and it is time to look at who the must have players are for GW27.
There are three standout key fixtures for me this week and they are:
Stoke Vs Aston Villa
Leicester Vs. Norwich
West Ham vs. Sunderland
I also think that Watford and Spurs have decent opportunities but I do have reservations over Spurs travelling to Fiorentina and then facing a slightly more rejuvenated Swansea defence and all of this off the back of disappointing FA Cup home defeat to Crystal Palace.
Stoke Vs. Aston Villa
Villa are sill reeling from their 6-0 humbling at the hands of Everton last time out in the league and the trip to Stoke comes just as the Potters have returned to form with a very impressive 3-1 win away to Bournemouth in GW26. New boy Imbula impressed in that game (but is unlikely to get those amounts of points week in week out), whilst Affelay seems to be starting to live up to his potential.
Arnautovic is expected to return for this game and looks a top pick at £6.4m and Shaqiri offers excellent assist potential from the middle of the park. This could be a real test for Remi Garde as he looks to bounce back after that historic defeat last time out… I only see bad things for Villa here though and the knack for this game is predicting which Stoke players will fire them to victory – my money is on Arnautovic.
Leicester Vs. Norwich
Leicester were very unlucky to lose against Arsenal when Danny Welbeck scored a very late winner for the Gunners. Playing with 10 men meant that Leicester’s game plan had to revert to defence for most of the game which was a shame. I expect to see Leicester bounce back against Norwich who have been conceding plenty of goals of late – although their performance was somewhat improved against West Ham last time out.
If Leicester play their usual attacking style then they will get all 3 points here but with the pressure of a possible title becoming very real it will be interesting to see if they attack the game with the same flair that has seen them bring such excitement to the Premier League this season. Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez are of course the key picks for this game and I would be wanting both of these players in this game if I could get them. Mahrez is reportedly being scouted by Barcelona, whilst Vardy has designs on an England starting place at Euro 2016 – both have plenty to play for but if you had to plump for one or the other then I would go for Vardy in this game.
West Ham Vs. Sunderland
Two goals for Dimitri Payet have put him firmly back in the minds of FPL managers and with a goal and an assist against Norwich in GW26 we hardly needed reminding of his brilliance. A home game against a Sunderland side that beat Man Utd last time out will not be as easy as it might have been earlier in the season but I can see another masterclass coming from the Frenchman in this game.
Clean Sheet Watch
One of the hardest things to predict in FPL is where the clean sheets will come and that is my biggest reason for not being an advocate of the rotating goalkeeper policy.
Despite the difficulty, here are my predictions for clean sheets with a percentage figure to help you select your defence.
West Ham – 75%
Sunderland – 10%
Leicester – 70%
Norwich – 10%
Southampton – 70%
Chelsea – 60%
Stoke – 70%
Aston Villa – 5%
Watford – 50%
Bournemouth – 30%
West Brom – 50%
Crystal Palace – 50%
Man Utd – 25%
Arsenal – 60%
Spurs – 70%
Swansea – 30%
I’d suggest you go with a mix of the top percentage players for GW27 defenders and remember, you are going to need you squad this week so I hope you’ve prepared well… I’ll be back later this week with more members articles, the podcast and the game week 27 captain picks.
