Game Week 29 Tips

I seem to start every weekly tips article with a statement that compares this Premier League season to something from The Walking Dead… frightening, unpredictable, where anything can happen and where no one (or team) is safe. As GW28 comes to a close it is yet another bizarre set of results and despite drawing on Tuesday, Leicester City have extended their lead at the top of the Premier League thanks to defeats for Arsenal, Spurs and Man City. The latter are at risk of dropping out of the Champions League places with West Ham and Man Utd just 1 and 2 points off the fourth place spot respectively.

Game Week 29 is just 2 days away and whilst the fears of squad rotation remain the defeats of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed teams will mean that it is all the more important to play as full a strength side as possible. With Arsenal and Spurs playing each other, Leicester City will be licking their lips and will fancy their chances of a good result at Watford having had one day extra preparation.

Game Week 29 Top Picks

There are a few standout fixtures for GW29 and we start with the North London Derby that kicks of the weekend action as Spurs play host to Arsenal at White Hart Lane.

Spurs Vs. Arsenal

With two defeats on the bounce for Arsenal this weekend could signal the end of their Premier League title push if they fail to beat Spurs which I have to say looks quite likely. Arsenal were poor against Swansea and the second half display was particularly disappointing, whereas Spurs at least gave it a good go against a West Ham side that is infinitely better than the Swansea side that they managed to beat in GW27. With home advantage the team I will be backing will be Spurs but I expect this to be a cagey affair due to the importance of it.

If Spurs win this then they will be title favourites (despite still being second to Leicester) and although this position at this stage of the season is unknown territory for Tottenham it is all too familiar for Arsenal where in recent times it has ended in disappointment. What I will say is that this game is not worth filling up on players for and although I would stick with Harry Kane, he probably won’t be a captain pick for GW29 in this one. A 1-1 scoreline or 2-1 to Spurs is fairly likely.

Man City Vs. Aston Villa

After a 3-1 hammering by Everton in the week it could hardly get worse for Aston Villa who head to the Etihad to play a Man City team that has the best home record in the league this season and who will be smarting from a humbling 3-0 defeat to Liverpool. Man City do look like the league is slipping away but with a game in hand they do still have a chance and this will be an opportunity for them to send a message out to the rest of the league. This could be any score line but the only man to back with any confidence is Sergio Aguero. The rest of the side is subject to rotation so tread carefully when considering Silva, Yaya or Sterling.

Crystal Palace Vs. Liverpool

Alan Pardew has declared that Crystal Palace have now entered the relegation dogfight and although that may seem like a slightly dramatic statement given that they sit comfortably on 33 points at the moment there is cause for concern given their recent form. Liverpool by contrast have scored 11 goals in their last 3 Premier League games and it looks like Firmino could be one to back once again with an impressive performance against Man City grabbing a goal and an assist.

Lallana also looked impressive against Man City but is always a rotation risk and the same could be said of Sturridge who could return for the trip to Crystal Palace after missing the City game.

The only concern with picking Liverpool players is the blank GW30 but that applies to a fair few teams so don’t worry too much about that.

Everton Vs. West Ham

Two more teams that don’t feature in GW30 are Everton and West Ham and both enjoyed impressive victories in GW28. They go head to head in GW29 at Goodison Park and this should make for an entertaining match with Antonio of West Ham making for an interesting differential striker with goals in his last 2 games. Romelu Lukaku remains a top pick and has dropped to a tempting price at £8.8m. Aaron Lennon is a player at risk of rotation but he has also impressed for Everton of late and scored again against Villa. Payet is almost a must have player this season and his good form continued in midweek.

This is probably not a game to bring players from these two teams in for – but certainly isn’t one to drop players for.
