Game Week 3 Captain Picks

In association with Premier Punt

So far this season the tried and tested big hitters have been reaping dividends for the Fantasy Premier League managers who have backed them. With Ibrahimovic and Aguero already looking likely to be contesting the golden boot this season, it looks like a no-brainer when it comes to picking captains – but life isn’t quite that simple so we’re not being made redundant just yet.

This week we have 3 top captain picks and a very interesting differential pick. You will need to access the members article to check the differential pick.

Captain Pick No. 3: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan has been prolific since joining Man Utd and an away game at Hull might be the perfect fixture to see him extend his scoring run. Hull have made an excellent start to life back in the Premier League but having played in midweek their threadbare squad is being stretched to the limit and this will be by far their sternest test yet.

If United score first in this game it will be interesting to see how the Hull players respond. There seems to be a good team spirit in the camp but with a lack of squad depth that spirit is only going to carry them so far.

Ibra’s price has risen to £11.7m and will probably hit £12m within a matter of weeks so if you are still putting it off, now could be the time to swoop for him. The only reason that Ibrahimovic is not the number one pick this week is down to Hull’s recent form and the fact that is an away game – both factors that his class can overcome.

Captain Pick No. 2: Diego Costa

Diego Costa has been very lucky not to have been sent off in both games he has played so far this season, but if you can get over the fears of him picking up a red card then he could be a very good captain pick for gameweek 3. Chealsea host Burnley this weekend after their phenomenal result against Liverpool last weekend, but Costa looks clinical and sharp this season and if Burnley concede as much possession to Chelsea as they did to Liverpool last weekend then they are going to be in for a tough time.

Hazard was Quilgiano’s podcast pick but Costa is likely to be on the receiving end of Hazard’s good work. Either of these are going to be a top pick for GW3 and with Burnley coming off the back of a poor league cup showing at Stanley their confidence might have been knocked enough to give Chelsea and Antonio Conte the feeling that this could be a whitewash.

Captain Pick No. 1: Sergio Aguero

We have not selected Sergio as our number one pick yet this season but the time has come to trust him with the armband. He has been in excellent form this season and if he stays fit he will break all previous goal scoring records for Man City. A 30+ goal season is certainly within his reach if he can stay away from the treatment table.

A home game against West Ham is not a simple task but the way that City dispatched Stoke in the second half last week is showing that Pep’s plans are coming together. West Ham have not had the best start themselves and were lucky to beat Bournemouth last weekend. They are fairly solid and will take some breaking down, but Aguero is looking at his clinical best and we are backing him to continue his rich vein of form at the Etihad this weekend.
