Game Week 34 Captain Tips
Game Week 34 Captain Picks
Sponsored by Premier Punt
It astounded me to learn that a number of active Fantasy Premier League managers were caught unawares as the double game week for Everton and Crystal Palace this week – maybe that was a good thing on reflection (in terms of Everton at least). But unless you have been seriously off the grid (which pretty much rules out everyone except fugitives and Bear Grylls) there is no getting away from the mammoth task of preparing for the double gameweek 34 this week.
The captain pick is all the more difficult this week given the fact that we have to consider twice as many games (for some players) and with some of our favourite captain picks being effectively ruled out due to playing just one game. Whilst we have learnt from the Lukaku blank that we shouldn’t just bank on a double game week, we also have to acknowledge that some top players have some cracking fixtures this week as part of their double game week. Manchester United and Arsenal have the pick of the fixtures with two home games each, but will their players make our competitive cut? Read on to find out…
GW34 Captain Pick No. 3 – Sergio Aguero
Two goals in his last 2 outings in the Premier League mean that Aguero will be a popular choice this week, although City’s away form might well be enough to put many managers off. City did well to see off PSG in the Champions League and despite reservations over squad rotation, Pellegrini has a tough task to balance Champions League success this season, with qualification in it for next season by claiming fourth spot in the league.
Chelsea at the Bridge will be an interesting tie given the poor form of the Blues in recent games but a returning Diego Costa will be a handful for Man City to deal with. It is a brave person who does not captain the Argentine in any double game week but the fixtures and the fact that City remain in the hunt for European success means that Aguero will only be our third pick captain this week. Perhaps a good vice?
GW34 Captain Pick No. 2 – Daniel Sturridge
Sturridge has grabbed two goals and an assist in his last 3 games and that sort of form would see a return of around 22 points from gameweek 34. Of course, life is not quite that predictable unfortunately but he does have a fantastic opportunity this week against a Bournemouth side that is hardly solid and an Everton side that is under pressure and facing some injuries to key players.
Sturridge has the differential with just 2.1% ownership and is priced at under £10m which makes a straight swap for someone like Harry Kane an easy transfer. The biggest doubt over Sturridge is the competition for a starting place but with Benteke looking out in the cold, the only real competition comes from Origi and Firmino and it may be that Klopp opts to play all three. It will be interesting to see if Klopp chooses not to start Sturridge in the Europa League against Dortmund but it certainly does look like the England man is his first choice now he is getting somewhere back to full fitness.
