Game Week 4 Captain Picks

It feels good to be back writing captain picks for game week 4 rather than flicking through international football games that hold pretty much no significance – certainly from a fantasy football point of view… and so, here we are ahead of an Aguero-less GW4 – let’s get to it.

GW4 Captain Tip – No. 3: Eden Hazard

Eden Hazard has been in top form so far this season and although he hasn’t looked like scoring a hatful (something that is more down to his mindset by his own admission), he has been consistently picking up points in each of his three starts this season. Returns of 10, 4 and 11 points in his last 3 games is impressive and sees him sit at the top of the tree when it comes to FPL points. An away trip to Swansea will not phase the Chelsea playmaker and he has to go down as a serious proposition for game week 4 as he looks to build on an already impressive start to life under Conte.

The addition of key defensive players since the last time we saw the Blues in action only strengthens his attacking possibilities and we see this as being a decent away win for Chelsea.

GW4 Captain Tip – No. 2: Alexis Sanchez

Sanchez rewarded those managers who stuck by him last week after a comparatively slow start to the season for the Chilean. A return of 16 points from one game is brilliant even by his own high standards and it could be enough to propel him in to top gear.

Arsenal have certainly stuttered in to the season but then so have Southampton. Whilst the Gunners seem to have got the engine running at least, the Saints look unlikely to get going when they visit the Emirates this weekend. The addition of Perez will give a lift to the players and with the midfield now featuring all of the big guns, Sanchez should benefit and a goal is always a possibility for him – if he gets a bit of luck then maybe more.

The only concern over Sanchez is the airmiles that he has done to play in Chile on Tuesday, but the player has such an appetite for the game that he will be banging the door down to play.

GW4 Captain Tip – No. 1: Diego Costa

Our number one top captain pick this week goes to Diego Costa. We have already made a case for Hazard but Costa is the one who has the ruthlessness to amass big points in this game. The Spaniard will fancy his chances against a Swansea backline that is starting to look a little exposed. 4 goals conceded in the last 2 games (against Leicester and Hull) to not make good reading for the Swans fans and the visit of Costa and his Chelsea teammates is probably the last thing they want.

Costa has been very consistent so far this season with 5 points in each of his 3 games. This could be the game where he breaks beyond that and we don’t foresee less. He is the third most transferred in player in GW4 (behind Sterling and Hazard) and is the player that most managers who have transferred out Aguero have gone for so there may not be too much differential there – the armband will give you that added bit you need.

Amazingly, only 550,000 managers have chopped Aguero so far. Given the amount of wildcards that have been played that is hard to fathom – and the fact that there are over 35% of teams that still feature the Argentine either means some are adopting another strategy or they are leaving their decision of a replacement late to be safe during the international week.

Whatever you choose – remember it is your team, make a decision and stick by it. Good luck.
