FPL Game Week 8 Captain Picks
Sponsored by Premier Punt
Fantasy Premier League returns for game week 8 just before yet another international break (insert own defamatory remarks here) and with it being the first game week in October all of us FPL managers will be wanting to make the right captain choice ahead of Saturday’s early kick off between Crystal Palace and West Ham.
Following our successful selection of Alexis Sanchez as captain for our podcast team last weekend we are feeling pretty confident about our captain picks for game week 8 – and so to business…
Our Top 3 Game Week 8 Captain Picks
With some very tasty looking fixtures this week there are plenty of options of who to give the captains armband to in the hope of lots of double points which in many ways makes the selection all the more difficult. We have tried to select the wheat from the chaff and give our predictions based on form, fixture and gut instinct (in that very scientific order).
Check out our thoughts on the game week 8 fixtures with more top tips here.
Captain Pick No. 3: Sergio Aguero Vs. Newcastle (h)
Aguero has hardly been in inspired form so far this season but it can only be a matter of time until his season really explodes. Once he gets a couple of goals in a game we will see a different player. A midweek penalty in the Champions League gives him the confidence of a goal and we can expect to see him with plenty of space against a Newcastle team that saw their defensive frailties exposed in their second half performance at home to Chelsea last week.
Given that Chelsea were ripped to shreds by a rampant Man City just weeks ago gives plenty of confidence to believe 3+ goals for Man City at home to Newcastle is not beyond comprehension. Kevin De Bruyne must also come in to consideration given his form but Aguero is the man that spearheads this City side and we fancy him to bag in this one. The concern is the tough away trip to Germany that they encountered in midweek and the possibility of a Champions League hangover – but it could be a risk worth taking if you don’t have our second or first captain picks in your side.
Captain Pick No. 2: Wes Hoolahan Vs. Leicester City (h)
Wes Hoolahan has been in inspired form of late with 2 assists and a goal his last 2 games. Norwich have started to play some exciting football (especially at home) and gave West Ham a run for their money last weekend. Taking on a Leicester side that just leak goals like a hemophiliac leaks blood (blame Quigliano for that one) he could become the assist machine once again. We expect a high scoring game as these two try to outgun each other and 2-2 is a likely result. It will require some balls to captain a Norwich player but the form and fixture is solid whilst our gut backs it up too – just imagine the differential points!
Captain Pick No. 1: Romelu Lukaku Vs. Liverpool (h)
Romelu Lukaku ran riot in the Black Country against West Brom on Monday night and he will be relishing the chance of a goal or two against a Liverpool side who just cannot defend for toffee and so it could be The Toffees who come out on top in this encounter. Lukaku was ruthless against WBA and a similar eye in front of goal this week could see him surge to the top of the forward leaderboard in terms of FPL points.
We think Everton have looked pretty good for a few weeks now and with the heat of a Merseyside derby to spice things up a bit we could be in for a thriller at Goodison Park. If you have Lukaku in your team then he is our number one captain pick!
