Game Week 8 Captain Tips
Game Week 8 Captain Picks
In association with Premier Punt
It seems like a lifetime since last choosing a captain but with the game week 8 captain choice a mere matter of hours away it feels good to back and making the most difficult decision of the week.
International fixtures in my mind are not good for much (but that is perhaps because I am English) but one thing they do is ensure a little more thought and planning has to go to in to the proceeding gameweek. Injuries and potential fatigue become issues that are more concerning for a captain than any other player in your team. After all, who wants to pick a captain who comes off the bench to play a bit part at the end of a game – and yes I am thinking Alexis Sanchez here.
There is talk of Kevin De Bruyne being fit to face Everton this week but he too is too much of a doubt to pick as captain and probably shouldn’t be brought back until next week.
With possible injuries to the likes of Raheem Sterling, Adam Lallana and fatigue being an issue for Sanchez (Arsenal) and possibly Son (Spurs) the captain pick is a tricky little blighter this week.
We have narrowed it down to two top picks and a top differential pick for GW8 – read on to check out our picks.
GW8 Captain Pick No. 2: Sergio Aguero
Aguero might seem like an obvious pick or on the other hand he might seem like a bold pick considering his and Man City’s flop at Spurs when last see. As much as Spurs did look impressive that day, City were missing the creative KDB in the middle of the park. If the Belgian does return then City could blow Everton to pieces, who by their own standards have had a poor last two games following a good start to the season.
Even without KDB, the inclusion of Aguero as a captain pick is sound (if only slightly doubtful based on his week’s mileage) and expect to see a big City response to that defeat in North London last time out.
Aguero is the key man and we expect him to be firing on all cylinders in this game. Given that they lost their last league game it is highly unlikely that Pep will risk resting the Argentine at the Etihad this weekend.
GW8 Captain Pick No. 1: Diego Costa
The number one captain choice is never a simple pick but this player has to be up there with the best this season. 6 goals in 7 games for Diego Costa is without doubt the one real positive in Chelsea’s stuttering start to the campaign. Reports on Thursday have suggested that Conte could be out of a job come the end of the weekend and if Chelsea lose at home to the Champions then the pressure will be intensified even further.
Chelsea overcame Leicester in the League Cup and I expect the same to happen at Stamford Bridge. If Costa continues this kind of form then even the tightrope of potential suspension (if he picks up one more yellow card) won’t stop his ownership from soaring past its current 30%.
A game week 8 of tough picks might need a differential player to come good – but if you prefer the tried and tested approach then Costa is probably the safest bet.
