Captain Picks Gameweek 33

Only 14 Premier League teams are taking part this weekend so the gameweek 33 captain pick becomes an even more difficult task – especially for the managers who are chasing players above them. There is one standout captain choice for GW33 in Sergio Aguero, but there are a few alternatives for captaincy if you look hard enough… but I feel it may take some persuading to make people sway from the resurgent Sergio Aguero.

Let’s waste no time this week and get straight down to business.

Who to Captain in Gameweek 33?

Sergio Aguero: Man City Vs. West Ham

As I have already pointed out this week in my gameweek 33 early tips article, Man City will be looking to take full advantage over a West Ham side who are without motivation and have nothing to play for. The niggling doubt over Man City is their recent form, but back at home this week against a team who they would usually trample all over I can see a few goals being scored by City in this. Aguero had question marks over him prior to last week, but with 2 good goals against Man Utd when City were playing poorly, he has answered his critics and will be looking to get City back on track.

The pressure is on Man City as their fourth place in the league is in jeopardy should they slip up here and so although the league title is now out of reach, they have plenty to play for. Aguero could well bag a brace again this week – we said it here first – although I am sure plenty others will be saying it too.

Aguero – our top captain pick for GW33 (unless you need the differential points)

The best of the rest for captaincy:

So the guy who is sitting pretty at the top of your mini league has Aguero, he is looking down on all of you like an Angel from Heaven and he thinks he can do no wrong… that may be true, but you need to do something different to cause a few ripples… take a risk… test his nerves! But with recent goal scoring heroes Benteke and Austin out this week where do we look to?

A common question I am hearing this week is:

Will Loic Remy start for Chelsea against Manchester United?

The answer to this depends on two things. Firstly, do you trust Mourinho (the mind game king) when it comes to revealing his players fitness and secondly, how defensive you think Chelsea will play in a match they just need to ensure they do not lose.

Jose Mourinho has already stated that Remy is fit to face Man Utd and you would like to think that it means he will start for Chelsea. However, I would not be surprised to see him play with almost a false striker and flood his midfield, perhaps bringing Zouma in to midfield alongside Matic to give that extra defensive protection.

To be honest, in my opinion, the question is pointless in the first place. Even if Remy does play, I think he will be limited to a maximum of one goal – Chelsea will not be going for the jugular here against a Manchester United team who is actually playing better than them in recent weeks. 1-1 draw is my prediction and this does not represent a good captain pick for me!

The Crystal Maze:

It is slim pickings this week and you could be looking at Spurs and Harry Kane, but they have been poor in the last few weeks so I will be looking elsewhere this week. One fixture which really takes my eye is

Crystal Palace Vs. West Brom

Palace have won their last 4 games and take on a West Brom side that couldn’t look less like a Tony Pulis side, conceding 10 goals in their last 3 games (7 in their last 2 games to teams in the bottom 3). Palace on the other hand are in fantastic form and Glenn Murray is our alternative captain pick for gameweek 33.

Glenn Murray: Crystal Palace Vs. West Brom

4 goals in 3 games has seen Murray’s FPL stock rise, but only marginally with 2.4% ownership and a price tag of £5.2m. If you are chasing the Captain Smugness in your mini-league then Murray could be just the late season wildcard you need. West Brom have been utterly dismal in recent weeks and the injury and suspension ridden backlines look like they cannot stabilise. I see goals for Palace here and Murray will have a great chance to add to the 14 points he earned last week.

Let me know what your thoughts are on the article and who you are thinking of picking as captain this week. Good luck this week.
